A new supply chain report says that iPhone 16 production began in June, but since then has ramped up in sufficient numbers to bode well for availability in mid-September.

Following both the initial production runs beginning in June, and July's start of production in India, mass manufacturing has begun. According to ET News both Samsung Display and LG Display have expanded production ahead of Apple's expected launch in September.

Apple is expected to produce 90 million of the iPhone 16 range, while the same report says that the number of OLED panels to be produced in 2024 will be 120 million.

Samsung Display is reportedly on track to produce 80 million of those. LG Display is on track to produce 43 million OLED displays, which is an improvement of over 10 million compared to its iPhone 15 production.

The report says that these numbers may change since a third supplier, BOE, is facing delays getting approval of its iPhone 16 display panels. In 2023, LG Display had similar delays, and Apple increased its order from Samsung.

Historically, this is about when we've heard about display assembly orders for a mid-September release.

Previous reports have said that these displays for the iPhone 16 Pro range will be noticeably larger than for the iPhone 15 range. The iPhone 16 Pro Max will be 6.9-inches instead of 6.7-inches, and the iPhone 16 Pro 6.3-inches instead of 6.1-inches.

The non-Pro models will remain the same as in the iPhone 15 range. The iPhone 16 display will therefore be 6.1-inches, while the iPhone 16 Plus will be 6.7-inches.

Rumor Score: Likely

It’s so funny how the media luvs to create the illusions of conflict. That’s media 101: fabricate conflict(conflict get clicks!) A perfect example is how they make out Apple and Samsung as Mortal Enemies meanwhile Samsung has been producing the iPhone display panels for years lol
