M4 MacBook Pro updates could be imminent with display shipments starting

Rumors haven't been able to nail down when an M4 MacBook Pro refresh would occur, but display shipments from the supply chain could indicate an impending announcement in the fall.

The rumor mill believes that Apple will be bringing out a bunch of M4 updates to its Mac lineup this fall. While there's no guarantee that all speculated models will get their chip upgrades, it seems that one product family has a good chance of making an appearance.

According to a now-deleted post to X by Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO Ross Young on Thursday, panel shipments started in July and August for the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Young adds that a Q4 launch for the M4-equipped models "makes sense" based on these shipments. This is a fairly good assumption, given the months-long component lead time for a MacBook Pro refresh.

The analyst's comments also give hope to other Mac models also getting their fall updates, possibly in a September or October event.

Current good bets for a fall update include a Mac mini in an updated smaller appearance and a New iMac. Products like the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro are anticipated to get their updates in 2025.

Or maybe Apple made him pull it, because it was close to accurate.

Doubt it. If he pulled it, I think he realized he was mistaken. 

If the M4 MBP models are using the same miniLED displays, it would be hard to tell. It would be a small production ramp of the display components. 

If there was a new part in the display, it’s easier to tell because so and so component maker is revving up their production line for said component, which is a much larger effort and harder to miss than ramping up production of an existing part. 

He would also have to be able to tell the difference between a holiday quarter ramp and a ramp up for a model refresh. There could also be other gating factors that are driving the schedule. Like the availability of SoCs, RAM, NAND, etc, some other part that is really driving the schedule.

With all the special deals on MBP and Mac Mini, it feels like an updated product release is imminent.

I hope so...my 2019 15" Intel MacBook Pro at work is EOL and I need to replace it before the end of the year so I'm hoping to get a 14" M4M MacBook Pro.
