If these are real... it doesn't look there are THAT many changes (so I'm a tad disappointed....)
I may have to withdraw from the 'put me first it line for a copy' group of people. I'd like to see more changes. All I see is piles, a different icon or two, and minor dock change. Hum.... (goes off in search for that build # on P2P network...)
You do realize true Panther development probably didn't start until a few weeks ago, and will take another few months?
Apple programmers: Ok lads, it's two months left to the WWDC today so I think its about time to start some work on that Panther thing. What Panther thing (another employee asks perplexed). You know, that new version of OS X that Steve's been asking about. Oh sh_t, I've forgotten all about it. Now, where the hell is that dev_tools CD??? I think it's over by the Force Feedback II under the NASCAR box, said another. Yeah, here it is.... So, guys. Any ideas. Yeah, I saw something over at some rumor-site about something called piles. Sounds cool, said another. Lets do it. Some programming is done, and after a while another team-member says: Hey, we're probably going to do something about the interface or else "Not Unlike Myself" at the AI-forum is going to be dissapointed. Ok, lets change the color of the X in the about window. Hey Joe, make sure you update the version number also... Ok, done. We'll better have to leak it - or people would think we've done nothing the last year. Ok Joe, I'll just take a screenshot of the things we've worked on so far - Piles, the new X - There lets mail it to a rumor site, ohh let's say.... Apple-X - there. Done. Ok boys, let's go out for a beer or something. Ok... I just have to finish this race first... d@mn... lets go..
Seriously though. I think Apple has been working for Panther for some time already, and will in the time before the WWDC implement more and more of the features into the OS and do some tweaking and testing.

Very possible, but that doesn't mean there have been complete builds of the OS before.

They are probably doing builds all the time, with and without new features added to iron out bugs, check if new features breaks something a.s.o. But you're probably right about Apple not doing complete builds yet since all features probably are not ready for prime-time. But I guess that most of the features to be added to 10.3 are in workable states, and much of the time left to the WWDC is going to be used ironing out bugs, tweaking performance and so on.

Remember that last year, the WWDC build still featured Minimize-in-place, which later did not make it to the release. If we can suspect a similar timeframe for Panther (i.e. release about three months after WWDC presentation), they might - just like with Jaguar - have different ideas, and present (and release, to developers) a build that combines most (or all) of them. That does not mean the final build will definitely feature all of them, nor does it mean the WWDC build will definitely feature all of those available in the final build.
For example, they might have concepts or basic ideas about features like a metadata-based finder, but might not include a finished implementation in WWDC. Or, they might do so, but then decide it wasn't all that good, and leave it out in the final.
I'm pretty sure that they started the Panther branch before they released Jaguar.
Agreed. I guess the roadmaps for future releases are made quite some time before the actual system is released. Some parts of Panther could therefore have been in the works for several years already, like say a new metadata FS, new finder aso.
Anybody else get the vibe that there have been some really rude posters recently? I think we should have a Survivor type series to vote trouble makers off the island.

If you're referring to my "Apple programmers" post, I only tried to be funny - funny like - not rude
But Finder 10.2 was released in 2002 while Mac OS X 10.2.5 was released this year.
Right, but I have 10.2.0, and the copyright and tm symbols are different there, too. Just another inconsistency from Apple
I would post the pic, but I don't have available webspace right now. I bet you that it's just a different font that they are using in the two places, but I'm not about to go font-matching.

I was just saying that they didn't have to be the same on there, because they weren't currently the same. But then again, going by that logic it would mean that the Finder in 10.3 wasn't changed/copyrighted. Nevermind, don't listen to me, I lost myself.
