The first concrete evidence of Apple TV+ breakout hit "Ted Lasso" returning for a new season has surfaced in a production database.

It was the show that made Apple TV+, and it was the show that even Tim Cook hoped would return for a further season after it appeared to conclude in 2022. Now following first rumors of the cast being contracted for a return, the show has appeared in a TV industry listing.

The Production List, maintained by the Film & Television Industry Alliance (FTIA) has now added "Ted Lasso (Season 4) to its list of shows in production or development. Most details are redacted in the publicly-viewable version, but it says that shooting is to take place in London and unspecified locations in the United States.

It further says that the shoot date is January 6, 2025. There is only one date and it is not specified as the start, but this is not a one-day shoot like the Ted Lasso pep talk with Stephen Colbert.

For as well as saying "Season 4," the show is specifically listed as being a series. Beyond that, the listing has only a generic description of the show.

The claimed shoot date is in line with the most recent rumor about the show, which said that it would begin filming in London from early 2025.

Neither Apple nor the show's production company have announced the further season. Consequently, there are no details regarding how the story is set to continue, nor whether this will be followed by a fifth run.

I hate to say that, but I feel like they shouldn’t have.
I loved Ted Lasso, and it was exactly what we all needed during the COVID times, but it had an ending, a decent one too. Let it rest and end as a great show.

With all the budget cuts in ATV, the money should be spent elsewhere so ATV doesn’t go down the Netflix path (2-3 seasons and a cliffhanger cancellation).

Yup, in my mind it ended. It “appeared to conclude” in 2022 because it did conclude. No interest in an artificial extension (and Sudeikis seems to agree, from what I’ve read elsewhere).

In the world of fiction, an ending doesn't have to be an ending. Sometimes that's a mistake to go back for more, but the creative team behind that show is certainly capable of making something that's unexpectedly good. I certainly recall an ample supply of negativity right here when the show was originally announced. We were assured that while the concept was mildly amusing for the short-form gags from which it was derived, it wouldn't be sustainable for a whole episode, much less an entire series. If they make a fourth season I wouldn't bet against it being as good or better than the first three.

I’m not arguing for or against a fourth season, but I have to point out that there are PLENTY of ways to carry on with a great cast and great premise without compromising a great ending for the third season that wraps up that story.

Just as an example: opening shot of Ted S4 establishes that he’s 10 years older, moved to a different city and working with a different team or doing something completely different (retired, but lured back into it).

The previous complete story remains complete, but you start a new story with some or just one of the old characters.

This was literally done when Star Trek (classic) moved into movies, and again when ST:TNG started on TV. For those who don’t remember, there was a cameo from Majel Barrett in the first episode of ST:TNG, and William Shatner and others from the classic ST cast appeared in the first ST:TNG movie, Generations.

Again, I have no idea how I’d feel about more Ted Lasso until I hear the pitch, but it’s also ridiculous to rule it out as impossible just because the final episode wrapped up that storyline so well.

    That didn't last long.

The first two seasons were great but the third was a letdown for me. It did wrap up the series but overall I thought it was not nearly as good as the first two.

I hope Season 4 is much better than 3. I resigned myself to be glad for the show being 2 - 3. The chance it ends up 2 - 4 would be even more dissipating.

That it "ended" and a fourth season is coming isn't the same as the "it was a dream" farce in Dallas. There are ways to get around Lasso's "ending". If it's a great season, great. If not, it's "why did they bother". I don't know if 4 can tap into the magic of 1 and 2 but I'll keep a good thought.

Easy.  The team tours the U.S.  and he rejoins.

Or, it’s X years later and his kid goes to a UK prep school or college so he returns.

But in spite of how good the other cast members are, it doesn’t work without Sudekis.   It would be “After MASH”.

Richmond faces an existential crisis amongst and between staff and players which leads to pleas for Ted, with his (their 😂) unique skills, to return temporarily to a beloved club in desperate need.

Also possible this FTIA listing is for one of the speculated spin offs, under the Ted Lasso umbrella.

The third season went a bit long tbh. But the show had an end. A good end. Try to tell a completely different story. Something new.

what is it with Americans and flogging and flogging a story until it destroys all the good in the story?

If it's more like Season 01 and less like Season 03, I'd really enjoy it.
