OK, if you could edit the thread title in VBB I would, to make the mathematics more accurate and the tone a little less hysterical.

But still.

What a goshdarned skanky shakedown.

The new 10 gigger is £248. That's $394. ($299 Apple Store.)

The new 15 gigger is £299. That's $475. ($399 Apple Store.)

The new 30 gigger is £398. That's $633. ($499 Apple Store.)

    In other words, the 15 gig iPod in the States is the same price as the 10 gig iPod in the UK.

    Has it always been like this or is this an unholy skank?

    The UK store prices include tax. I'm not sure the US site does. does this level the prices somewhat?

    And we don't get the music service either!

    VAT = Value Added Tax

    And yes Americans do have tax on top of their purchases, it just varies from state to state. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    so what value is being added? here the tax is approx. 6% - 8% max for most states.

    isn't it somewhere in the range of 16% or higher in europe?

    24%(!!!) in Norway. We have to pay about $430 for the 10 gigger and $684 for the 30 gigger. Dirt cheap if you ask me.
