when I moved to Europe I hated how tax was included ALREADY on everything.

But it makes sense now since its country to country here and is a lot LESS confusing than in the US. In NYC when you go off to buy something you ALWAYS get a price without tax. I hated having a sign saying "Only 19.99$" going in with a 20 and obviously not having enough cause the sales Tax hadnt been added yet.

Anyhoo, it really does suck to have higher prices here.

I'm going to ask a friend to get me an iPod in Hong Kong and have it sent to me via DHL or something.

30GB iPod for 500usd (456eur) all taxes included and shipping.

    15GB iPod for 397usd (362eur) idem

Thats more or about 100eur less than what you would get them for here in Europe.

    Hi ZO,

don't you also need an adapter kit for the AC?

In germany we get a one year warranty from apple

One year warranty here and VAT/Sales Tax/GST/whatever included in price.

I believe a good way of purchasing a new iPod and save some ca$h is to get someone visiting the states to buy for you (possibly avoid paying Sales Tax as iPod would be "Duty Free"??).

As the unit charges from the FireWire port I don't see how different voltage supplys in different countries would matter anyhow.

Nope, they come with universal power supplies. All you need is a plug adapter which can be bought for like $5, instead of the $39 Apple charges for the 'World Connector Kit'.

    Very nice,

I think I will get a friend of mine to by one in the Apple Store in Houston and bring it with him when he comes for a visit next month.

How does this student discount thing work, you just walk into the Apple Store and show an id from your university and get the education price?

It means: tell the person serving you that you want the student discount before they begin entering the transaction into their point-of-sale terminal.

before they scan the iPod, make sure you tell them you want the EDU price. you should get $30 off, which should counter any tax you would have to pay
