Am I the only one who absolutely despises the new CarPlay look? I really hope this will be optional and I still get to limit CarPlay to its own screen or area of a screen.. and leave the rest to the car.

I bought a Volvo XC40 electric this year. Had to use Google to run the car. And with Google it is a seamless experience with lots of information on the battery and such. Plugging in CarPlay feels clunky and outdated. It does not tell me how much change remains when I arrive at destination, nor does it knows where I should recharge. I was truly hoping for a better CarPlay but as the wait continues I think car builders are moving on.

Taking over entire dashboard looks invasive. And of course, no car manufacturer wants that unless they are the first, by then, they will let Car Play tag along as a guest. It’s like don’t come in my house and tell me what to do when you’re my guest.

Hopefully, Apple is not putting all their eggs into the new car basket. Advanced CarPlay is a natural for the aftermarket and I’d love to see them work with vendors such as VDO, Haltech, Auto Meter, etc.
