I fail to see where waving my hand at a lamp to hope and get it to understand where I want it to point is better than just grabbing it and pointing it.
Isn't this lamp is an exercise for the engineers and designers and not really a product protype? I agree this would be an unneeded waste of effort and materials as a real product. Of course we see this sort of dumb stuff elsewhere. Autonomous driving is a joke and completely backwards from what it should be. Instead of the human having to monitor the car's driving and seizing control if needed, the car should be monitoring the human's driving and making corrections as needed. With roads, cities and countries basically being an expression of infinite variability, it seems unlikely and impractical for cars to ever be able to safely navigate such a quagmire. Similarly making common, easy to operate objects into robot versions seems utterly wrong and wasteful.
