Plus the trick of holding centre button on an episode and choosing goto show from the popup. Great to see all episodes and which you have watched.
Which is why it’s so idiotic of HBO/Max to change this behavior in their wonky app to “remove show from queue”. Idiots. They also removed support for “What did he say?” and auto-captions-on-rewind. Idiots.
Unfortunately no Smartube app outweighs any other nicety of it for me. Otherwise I'm all in the Apple ecosystem, but for a Google TV streaming box. Youtube is utterly insufferable without it.
How is YouTube "insufferable" on Apple TV stb? I watch a ton of YouTube content through the official app for Apple TV and have zero complaints.
It’s a non-native app with non-native UX. Doesn’t support ATV skip/forward, scrubbing, etc. Instead of using the platform’s paradigms you have to forget them and use an objectively poorer set of actions to achieve the same use cases. Another annoying thing - constantly requiring profile selection, and constantly reloading the home thumbnail selections. It’s an insufferable POS app written by people with no taste.
Am I the only one who feels the current interface is vastly inferior to the previous one? Far too much fiddling and too many multiple locations for the same search functions, &c. Apple appears to have veered farther and farther off its course of earlier years when keeping interfaces clear and simple was a priority. Now it just appears to be, "How many functions can we cram into how many displayed screens?"
Or maybe I'm just a cranky, old guy who's resistant to change.
“You just may get a bit bored of having to enter your password over and over since there's no Touch ID or Face ID.”
This statement is untrue for the US, if you’re using the Remote app on your relatively recent iPhone with Face ID and Wallet enabled. Purchases are handled just like Apple Pay, with a quick face scan and side double-tap.
Love the Apple TV but... ever since Movies and TV moved to the Apple TV app I've had consistent issues with my purchased Movie tiles updating. Just row after row of blank gray tiles that either don't update at all or, if they do, update one after another every 2-3 seconds or so.
The problem probably lies with rewriting the app in SwiftUI and more to the point, the fact that I now have over 800 movies I've purchased over the past couple of decades.
I am--unfortunately--a big fan of picking up movies that were listed as $3-$5 on the Friday sales, discounted bundles, and so on, and I suspect that they simply don't run tests on accounts that large.
I have about 525 movies and I'll see the blank icons when it refreshes them but most of the time I see them with their normal icons. I would bet Apple has tested it with libraries in the thousands (there are plenty of people out there with them, trust me) and what you see is most likely not due to a large library.
I have a lot of purchased movies and TV series. (idk off the top of my head, and Apple doesn't display that number anymore in the TV app, but more than 1,200 movies alone). They all appear instantly on load. This was an issue on older Apple TV models, but Apple fixed it. There might be a specific bug affecting your library. Can always contact Apple Support and see if you can get them to find the issue. Could also be related to your region if you're outside the United States, as the fix may not have reached every market.
