The iPhone 17 could end up with a larger display than the iPhone 16, with a new supply chain rumor reinforcing previous rumors of a 6.3 inches diagonal screen.

The iPhone 17 could match the iPhone 17 Pro's 6.3-inch screen size

The iPhone range has different sizes of display, depending on the model. For the iPhone 16 generation, the smallest was 6.1 inches diagonally, but the size of the standard model could be a bit bigger in the iPhone 17 family.

According to a subscriber post on X from DSCC founder and Counterpoint Research VP Ross Young, the screen of the base iPhone 17 will be bigger than that of the iPhone 16. Specifically, the iPhone 17 will be shifting from 6.1 inches in the previous model to 6.3 inches.

The change will mean the iPhone 17 should have the same screen size as the iPhone 17 Pro. This would be a similar situation to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, which had the same 6.1-inch screen size.

While the screens will be the same dimensions between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, they should still differ in terms of other specifications.

Under both DSCC and his current Counterpoint role, Young has specialized in analyzing the display supply chain. He has a very high level of accuracy for his reports, albeit limited largely only to screens.

A repeated rumor

Given Young's track record, it is probable that the claim is genuine and that the screen will be 6.3 inches. It also helps that there have been other rumors saying the regular iPhone 17 will have a 6.3-inch screen.

However, others such as analyst Jeff Pu have disagreed with this assessment in the past.

While there is the expectation of the iPhone 17 and Pro models having the same size of screen, the other variants will have wildly different sizes.

The iPhone 17 Air or iPhone 17 Slim is anticipated to have a 6.6-inch OLED screen, marginally smaller than the iPhone 16 Plus it replaces. Meanwhile the iPhone 17 Pro Max is thought to maintain its position as the biggest iPhone, sticking at 6.9 inches for another year.

Rumor Score: Likely

I don't want a tablet in my pocket, the iPhone 4 form factor was perfect. Actually I'd pefer the camera to be a separate device tightly integrated with the phone.

I agree with him 100%. So do a ton of other people. So do a lot of other people. If you want to carry an aircraft carrier in your pocket, more power to you. Plenty of us do not.
