A well-known leaker with a questionable track record claims that Apple could release the iPhone 17 in two new colors.

On Friday, Leaker Majin Bu announced that Apple is currently testing iPhone 17 base model colorways. This time around, it seems as though Apple may be planning on going with a pastel green and purple.

From the images shared by Bu, the purple appears to be pretty similar to what we saw with the iPhone 11 lineup. The green, however, is more saturated than the light green iPhone 15 and skews more towards yellow than the mint green iPhone 12.

In the accompanying blog post, Bu says that while both colors are actively under consideration, only one may actually make the final cut. The leaker says that as of right now, the current frontrunner is purple.

The rest of the blog post goes on to reiterate what Bu believes Apple will introduce with the upcoming iPhone 17 base model. It includes a 120Hz display, an aluminum design, improved cameras, and A18 Bionic chip.

The design shared also echos that which we've seen in both leaked molds and dummy models, with a vertically aligned dual camera, similar to the iPhone 16 layout.

Majin Bu's track record is, like many leakers, mixed -- but theirs is on the bad side of that "mixed" line. While Bu often gets certain details -- mostly logical assumptions -- correct, they also predicted the iPhone 15 "Ultra," which was allegedly supposed to release with two front-facing cameras.

Both colours are good. Apple, use both. Who doesn't like green and purple...

So on what objective scale does Majin Bu get a “questionable track record” rating, while Ming Chi Kuo keeps getting lauded as “reliable,” “better than most,” etc? I mean, like Bu, Kuo gets some things right, but according to him, we’d all have folding iPhones by now. Sure, Kuo keeps revising to push back the date, but if Kuo always keeps a date on the horizon while the folding phone never actually materializes, does that mean it never lands in the “got it wrong” column? How many of the things Kuo did eventually “get right” were revisions preceded by a trail of predictions that, taken on their own, were actually wrong? Should a trail of wrong answers not add a lot of weight to the bad side of that mixed line? A lot of Kuo’s wrong-to-right final revisions occur within days of an official announcement from Apple. Surely at that point, those last-minute “right” answers should fall into the discounted “logical assumptions” column as well.
