The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max launch is very soon. Here are the colors Apple's 2025 flagship phones are expected to launch with.

In the months leading up to the traditional September introduction of a new iPhone collection, the rumors about the physical aspects solidify. But, speculation about what colors those smartphones will launch with continues to percolate.

The closer to launch, the louder those color claims get. Historically speaking, it's around the two-months mark that they reach their height and are generally accurate.

For the iPhone 17, that has been the experience so far. While the rumor mill is quite confident about the physical form of the inbound models, it has also moved on to discussing colorways.

Based on the more prevalent rumors and speculation, AppleInsider has produced renders of the new Pro and Pro Max models. All to help you decide on which color to pick this fall.

Ways of color

When it comes to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, there is quite a bit of alignment between rumor producers.

According to Sonny Dickson on July 14, the list of Pro-specific colors are Black, Grey, Silver, Dark Blue and Orange. The collection of colors were sourced from a lens cover.

Of the group, Orange seems unusual, but Dickson said it could be considered "Dark Gold" or "Copper" instead, to continue the luxurious color scheme Apple uses for its premium models.

Sources of MacWorld on July 16 say that the collection is mostly the same as Dickson's pile, with two exceptions. The Black will be like the iPhone 16 Pro, the Grey will be like Natural Titanium, and Dark Blue will be Pantone 19-4025 TPG Mood Indigo.

The first exception is the Orange colorway, with Apple set to use Pantone 1501243 TCX Papaya, and give the iPhone a "fluorescent" look. This doesn't sound like a Copper or a similar premium-sounding colorway by this description.

The other difference is that the publication went with White instead of Silver. This would, again, be similar in shade to the iPhone 16 Pro version.

While these seem plausible, there is one big outlier for the Pro models. Majin Bu claimed in April that Apple will use "YuangFeng Blue" or "Sky Blue" as an exclusive color for the iPhone 17 Pro.

They then retracted the claim of the Pro model having a Light Blue color on July 14, but that the iPhone 17 Air would get it. There was no mention by the leaker of the non-Pro getting this light blue shade at all.

Light Blue is believed to be in use for the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air, according to other rumor sources.

Beyond color

The color range of the iPhone 17 collection is only one part of many changes on the horizon for Apple's flagship smartphone line.

On the outside, the iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to use an all-new camera bump that spans the entire width of the devices. As a consequence of the expanded bump, Apple is anticipated to shift the Apple logo further down the back, to a more visually pleasing position.

For the camera, the Pro models may enjoy a resolution bump for the Telephoto sensor, bringing it up to 48MP. Screens are expected to be brighter, as usual for Apple's newest releases.

All models could use the new A19 chip, with the Pro models using the A19 Pro. Memory is also expected to be 8GB for the iPhone 17 and 12GB for the Pro and Pro Max models.

This year may also see Apple take advantage of vapor chamber cooling on the Pro models. This is a technique that can help increase the performance of the A19 Pro chip, using a reservoir of liquid.

Always have been and always will be the biggest fan of Apple’s monochrome metal looks (silver, grey, etc). So I’ll probably be getting the natural titanium color in September since it’s finally time to retire the trusty iPhone 11 Pro Max. But the camera “bump” is getting quite strange.

Hopefully Apple can address this by iPhone 18 with a more integrated aesthetic.

The lens cover choices seem very strange this cycle. Why wouldn't they make the metal rims flush with the lenses like in years past? It seems these would be much more susceptible to damage.

If the orange ends up looking like the rendering in real life, I’m 100% on board with that color.

Love the “orange” color, but we’ve been teased with a similar color many times.  Whatever we get, if it’s pro, then it’s going to be bland!

My 16pro doesn’t have flush sapphire glass with the rims, so it could be the render is not totally accurate. A rumor that’s not 100% accurate, imagine that.

I’m in. The specs on the pros are what I’ve been wanting for years. The cameras are going to be over the top outstanding

Maybe I've missed the camera spec rumors, but all I've heard is that the telephoto lens will get a 48MP sensor, which is certainly nice but not what I'd call over-the-top outstanding. What else have you read?

Funny thing: for all of the camera hardware improvements made by Apple over the years, I think it has gone in the opposite direction with its computational photography processing. It's not for nothing that I find myself experimenting with Project Indigo from Adobe that bypasses Apple processing for more natural looking photos which don't have that "too perfect" iPhone-y look.

As for the rumored color choices this year, I hope we finally get a true black, jet black iPhone Pro as pictured above. My wife's company issued her a 16e in true black and it's absolutely gorgeous, definitely the Darth Vader of phones. I seem to recall that for about a month or so last year, the rumor mill was buzzing about a "sunset orange" color for the 16 Pro, but then that rumor just disappeared--perhaps it was just a year too early?

Oh, god, don't give Apple any ideas! The orange color will be a $2,000 "upgrade."
