Roku has introduced Howdy, a new subscription video-on-demand service available for $2.99 per month. The service launches nationwide on Tuesday, August 5.

Howdy offers ad-free streaming with unlimited access to nearly 10,000 hours of content. The catalog includes titles from Lionsgate, Warner Bros. Discovery, FilmRise, and select Roku Originals.

Subscribers can watch films like "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "The Blind Side," and series such as "Weeds" and "Kids in the Hall." The service's library spans various genres, including rom-coms, medical dramas, and '90s sitcoms.

The subscription price is not promotional and can be canceled at any time. According to Roku, there are no contracts or hidden fees associated with the service.

Roku views Howdy as complementary to higher-priced streaming options, not as a direct competitor. The platform is aimed at users looking for affordable, uninterrupted entertainment.

Currently, Howdy is exclusive to Roku devices. However, the company plans to bring the service to mobile and additional platforms in the future. An iPhone version seems inevitable, as does an Apple TV one.
