    Predictions for iCam:

    +Optics from Canon or Nikon

+Interface designed by Apple with scroll wheel similar to iPod

    +Firewire connection definitely

The main "gimic" that Apple will offer is the ability to use the iPod to store digital photos. Hook up your iPod to the camera and the camera will automatically transfer your pictures and free up your camera's internal memory. 40,000 pictures on your iPod. Not bad.

    nullptr has it right.

I was just at my camera dealer (not B&H or Adorama), a dealer that caters to top professionals, and I just happen to discuss to another photographer who ended up buying Nixvue. It looked cheap, felt cheap/ fragile and it was the best thing out there. He didn't even bat at the price of $489.00. He bought it because he needed it for his upcoming photographic expedition. I just stood there shaking my head and my dealer says "it's a shame that Apple has not made/bundle a digital storage unit." I had hopes of Apple making iPod or similar unit to iPod ever since iPod came out.

I have purchased 340mb Microdrives when they first came out because it was the largest capacity. When the 1 GB Microdrive released I bought that too. Why? Since my digital cameras capture @ 18mg raw, NEF or 42-48 mb tiff I had to have the largest card otherwise I'm forced to shoot teathered to a computer. At end of a shoot day I will easily have 10 GB of files to edit.

Consumers will never need to approach what I do above but ONE common thing is that consumer cameras are continually being upgraded in mega pixel and as result will have bigger image capture files. It is laughable that consumer digital cameras still come with 4mb or 16mb compact/smart media card. Even with low 2 mega pixel, shooting uncompressed, you will only be able to save four images. Of course one should purchase a larger memory card to something more like 128 or 256 but the prices for them are not cheap enough to buy three or four of them. I happen to see a lot of tourists walking around NYC with Canon G2, Nikon 5000, 5700, etc., and these consumer cameras offer pretty big files. If they purchase two 256 cards or 2 512 microdrives that already caughs up price of Nixvue.

In that situation I feel that one would easily purchase such iPod storage unit that would allow larger capacity storage unit. Sale of such unit would not limit to Apple owners either. There are a lot more people who own digital cameras than MP3 players and like the thread above mentioned everyone has different brand of camera but it would be an Apple iPod-like storage unit that will link them together. This way of market entry would be greater than MP3 impact and will also have greater way of introducing PC users to Apple. (Like PC vs Mac, majority of digital camera owners use PC to connect)

    That's my 2 cents.... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

someone mark a calendar, because i actually agree with everything eugene has had to say.

i still like my idea of having the iPod optionally attach to* an iCam (would require a modified iPod design to accommodate this, with a color LCD). that way, as others have said, the "gimmick" is that the iCam and iPod are really nice and cool separately, but incredible TOGETHER. (please note that the iCam would work just fine without the iPod in my fictional universe... just way better with the iPod). that way, sales of one stimluate sales of the other.

*(or slide inside... the iPod has always looked to me like a removeable module for something else, like the duos and their docks in a way)
