Annoying change in 10.2.6
in thee about this mac box you used to be able to get the serial # of the mac by clicking on the grey 10.2.5 or whatever version you are running.... in 10.2.6 this option is gone
this was useful for repairs on the machines in the lab that I worked at... I guesss next year I wont be able to do that... \

are you sure you guys are seeing the SERIAL number of the machine and not the BUILD number of the OS? because that works fine....
Second click gives the serial number.

I recall during one of the 10.0 or 10.1 periods my serial disappeared for a while. It didn't come back until a later system update. I never knew why it happened.
it was just weird for it to happen to 2 macs at once in my house.... i wonder if my ti will have it...

My rev. A iMac's serial isn't hardcoded anywhere in the machine...it's just printed on the outside. There's no way OS X could know what the serial is.
good point... its not is ASP either...
and the iBook seems to be messed up in that regard as well... seems I will be making another trip to the apple store...
what the hell!!!!!
