Why would anyone in Europe see it?

Oh, Anders, it's really in to claim that you're not watching the festival, I think most people even claim they'd never watch, still 700 million people tune in while its going live. In either case, I think being jaded is très passé.

Then you haven´t been here post 2000 when we won. Everyone and their mother went cracy and it became hip to watch it.

What is it with it? It can´t be becuase of the music because it generally stinks. I really don´t understand. Is it becuase it is a competition? Then the substance of it has to be intersting. I don´t watch football either (another chic thing) or motorsports. but I watch cross country skiing and snooker. Its a matter of taste and I really can´t imagine 700 million really think this music is so great.

I think most people would agree that the music is complete crap, but that's not it. Eurovision is a tradition, and it's a fine competition, where everybody gets to compete, and everybody actually has a chance to win. I mean, last time Belgium won was in 1986, with 14 year old Sandra Kim singing "J'aime j'aime la vie". Is that a good song? Hell no. It's Eurovision kitsch. It's hard to classify with anything else, because its unique. Don't get me wrong, I caught myself watching yesterday more than I have anytime before (probably because I'm no longer a student, and no longer have exams in June). I'm not a fan of Eurovision at all, but I do think you don't do it justice when you're that aloof and hold it up to the high standards young educated hipsters like yourself and myself are accustomed to. ( ).

Yes, I had completely forgotten about that: although Canadian, she sang for France. I don't know about Bjork though...

I hate to tell you, but non-Europeans tune in to Eurovision for a guaranteed kitsch overload. That said, this was only my second one, and it really wasn't that embarassing this time.

    And Turkey's dancers rocked!

P.S. I'm really not down on Europe -- every culture has its kitsch. Oddly enough, the Brits can't get enough Aussie kitsch (i.e. Neighbours, Home and Away et al) all the while somehow maintaining their superiority complex. Go figure!

P.P.S. I'm pleasantly amazed that tatu didn't win.

Mainly to remind us of our global status as

    The lucky Country ......

I see it as a singing-Gob-fest...with goofy musik, that's about as offensive as a nun's fart.

And yes it's a tradition..much like wearing ugly stripped pants on a Golf course..the likes of which would probably have you arrested if worn in any other avenue of life....

Just put it down to being so bad..it is " Kitch "
