Neil Young..... SUX.....

I wanna cry with frustration...

Went to check out the listed tunes at Mac..hoping against hope that his record label might have posted his old stuff..

Albums like

" On the Beach ".

Hawks & Doves " etc..

Rumour has it, he doesn't like the sound quality of CD's. & therefore wants everyone to hear it on LP's only.. How friggin precious!!!

( If this is this true then I am afraid to say, but Neil....you SUX..BIG TIME pal !

Call yourself a musician loyal to your fans..Bullsh..t ! )

I have loved his music for ever, so does anyone know of any truth to this story & I wonder where I can get real high quality Cd's of the above..?

How frustrating can it be for us fans ?

\

Or am I the only one pissed off with this "lack " of Cd's

the initial reason he didn't issue them was in fact that he didn't like the way they sounded on cd, but he resolved that fairly quickly. i think he kind of enjoyed the cult status these missing releases had gained, via their "unavailability". especially "on the beach" which didn't get the same critical accolades that the similarly themed "tonight's the night" would garner a few years later.

the bigger question is where's the box?

    Washed....

    ....up.

His best stuff was done with - guess who - Crosby, Stills and Nash.

BTW, did he ever have the balls to write a "retort" song to the jabs he took from the greatest redneck band ever -- Lynard Skynard?

i think his success and Lynyrd Synard's um.... embarrassingly pathetic attempt to continue to have a "career" is enough satisfaction for Neil and any Neil fan.

I think that your entirely wrong . . . the year of the horse is a GREAT live album . . . he's had many hits in the relatively recent past and his worst work was with CSNY . . . . they were all phonies and ideological hypocrits (well, in S Stills case)--

Lynard Skynards career as a band ended with a plane crash that killed 5 0f their members . . . and I think that the whole neil versus LS thing had been amicably recsolved by then anyway . . . if memory serves me . .

Hawks and Doves is a great overlooked and truly quirky album

But I always thought On The Beach came way after Tonights the Night ?!

I used to live near where Neil lives in Half Moon Bay . . . A friend of mine even moved just down the road from him and partied with people that partied with Mr. Young . . . I lost touch with this guy . . . I wonder if he ever got to hang at the estate . . .

oh yeah . . . just to reiterate . . . much of his new stuff ROCKS: especially The Year of The Horse!!

neil's reply to skynyrd ("walk on" from "on the beach")

he became very tight with skynyrd after this.

I hear some people been talkin' me down,

Bring up my name, pass it 'round.

    They don't mention happy times

They do their thing, I'll do mine.

Ooh baby, that's hard to change

I can't tell them how to feel.

Some get stoned, some get strange,

But sooner or later it all gets real.

    Walk on, walk on,

    Walk on, walk on.

I remember the good old days,

Stayed up all night gettin' crazed.

Then the money was not so good,

But we still did the best we could.

I got Neil Young Overkill my sophomore year of college. When my roommate wasn't playing his CDs, he was singing his music while playing the guitar.

KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD!!!!

    No. Stop. Please.

it was recorded the year after, but he was going to shelve it.

in fact tonight's the night was released on a dare. he was actually going to release something called gone with the wind that had half of stars and bars on it as well as some stuff from comes a time i think.

he had friends over to play the album and after it was over he played the tonights the night tapes.

rick danko dared him to release tonights the night tapes instead, so he shelved gone with the wind, and put out tonight's the night completing his gloomy trilogy. (time fades away, on the beach, tonight's the night)

I think you have that reversed. The only good music CS&N have released was written by Neil....

Ahh...he didn't need to. Look up Warren Zevon, one of the best song writers ever. Warren was a good enough friend to do it for Neil:

    Play it all night long

    Grandpa pissed his pants again

    He don't give a damn

Brother Billy has both guns drawn

He ain't been right since Vietnam

    Sweet home Alabama

    Play that dead band's song

Turn those speakers up full blast

    Play it all night long

    Daddy's doing Sister Sally

    Grandma's dying of cancer now

    The cattle all have brucellosis

    We'll get through somehow

    Sweet home Alabama

    Play that dead band's song

Turn those speakers up full blast

    Play it all night long

I'm going down to the Dew Drop Inn

See if I can drink enough

There ain't much to country living

    Sweat, piss, jizz and blood

    Sweet home Alabama

    Play that dead band's song

Turn those speakers up full blast

    Play it all night long

    You suck.

That box has been on the release list for over a decade. That sonofabitch Neil had it ready to go on CD, but wasn't happy with the sound. Then he remastered it for HDCD, but it still wasn't really any better than the CD which wasn't good enough. Then, as of about a year ago, he had remastered everything for a third time for DVDAudio, and that was supposed to be released by this past Christmas.

Neil's just a freak. He made an album once, had it pressed on LP and ready to ship, but was unhappy with it. So, he bought the entire run of the LP, every pressing, brought them to his ranch and shot them with a shotgun.

So, where's the box? We won't know until Neil finally dies and someone else can release it.
