Bush Over Baghdad

Posted:
in General Discussion edited January 2014
Just heard that President Bush has flown over Baghdad....pointing out various sights to the reporters on board Airforce One..

Is this the height of arrogance, political insensitivity or a way of ramming the message to middle eastern leaders, that America plans to change the way things are done..

subtle..as usual...

Is he that dumb or is he really smarter than we realize ?\

"Height of arrogance"? I don't see how it means anything at all.

Can you guys imagine the security Bush has had over there? Can you imagine the escort for the aircraft?

This should be a music thread. First you talk about 'Bush Over Bahgdad' and now you're talking about the B-52's....

This is every bit as cheesy as the aircraft carrier thing.

Maybe arranging a 9/11 re-enactment would be kind of the parallel....

I think what he's getting at is that a plane flying over like that would remind the savage brown people of the mighty noise making birds that rained much fire on their huts. And the new giant noise bird would make their knees quiver and fill them with much fear of mysterious things they could not understand.

    Or something like that.

I think that the thread is about the symbolic aspect of this flight. Like Zeus in the mount Olympus, Bush fly over Baghdad and show things to others minor god with his finger. He did not coundescend to meet Irak people directly.

I quite understand that aspect, but we should not forget the practical aspect : the security . visiting Iraq may be dangerous for him, and more he can appear like a provocation among some population.

If *that's* provocative, I wonder what driving tanks into Baghdad was?

Its hardly the most diplomatic thing to do...flying over that is..But then again..I notice that many in the middle east are giving some creedence to Bush's attempts to broker a peace between the Palestinians & Israel.

Maybe at the end of the day..President Roosevelt's " "speak softly but carry a big stick "

is the only effective soft/hard approach to these matters...

    Only time will tell....
