I realized that. My point was that he claimed " It adds AAC2, FairPlay?2". So if "AAC2" is "MPEG-4 AAC", then AAC is already there, and not added. And if "AAC2" is "MPEG-2 AAC" (because of the "2" in the "MPEG-2"), then he can't be right, because adding that makes less sense than adding WMA, for example.

G-suz - he was just making up names as he wrote them - take a look in FH to see what a fake he is.

    AAC 1 IS MPEG-4 Layered.

AAC2 IS STILL MPEG-4 but the Layers used are not more 1+4 but 2+4.

Higher graded layers take less memory space.

It was also developed by Dolby.

I thought you were gone after the eMac mouse trade in fiasco.

Supposedly buyers of new PowerMacs will get a ticket/coupon to receive Panther, when it is released.

Sigh. You really just don't get it, do you? Apple can do one of two things: a.) Release the 970-based PowerMacs and Panther simultaneously, around 2-3 months from now, or b.) Release the PowerMacs now due to pent-up demand and release Panther 2-3 months from now. In any event, Panther wont be ready for public distribution for a while. I'll bet any amount of money that people who purchase a PowerMac will get a free copy of Panther. Additionally, you can just wait until Panther is out and bundled/installed on the PowerMacs to purchase your little toy.

If you had it your way, Apple wouldn't announce the PowerMacs at WWDC because it couldn't publicly release Panther at the same time.

gollum is a great name...think about what happened to smeagul...he was a relatively normal guy until he got his hands on the ring....after seeing/using it it started to bend his will/thoughts to its own...it became such an overpowering force that its powers ripped away his very personality until he became a simple pathetic slave to its wishes.....

A nice quote from Future Hardware. Forget to copy guys name. But I thought it was cool.

Apple need to get 970s out there. They'll no doubt perform much better than dual 1.42 giggers. And when Panther comes, they'll fly.

That's in line with my expectations of what I thought Apple would do.

No need to panic. We wanted the 970s sooner, right? We have to be rational and expect it won't perform as well as it would on Panther. C'mon guys.

Apple, as usual, is damn if they do, damned if they don't. If they wait to release new PowerMacs, people will be pissed for holding back. If they release new PowerMacs and thus release Panther later, people will be pissed for not releasing the PMs with the OS. Of course, Apple could rush Panther out the door in time for the new PMs, but then people would be pissed for getting a rushed/buggy product. Par for the course.

I guess this is pretty much **CONFIRMED** as the new build of Safari (v80) that is floating around says something is it's agreement or Read Me about "10.2.7 and newer".

    Hmmm not that I see...

No readme in the disk image and the installer only has an agreement but no reference to "10.2.anything" and the installer itself does have reference to 10.2.0 and 10.3 pretty much saying 'this can be installed if the OS is v10.2.0 or greater and less than 10.3.

If you can dig up the ref I'd like to see it...

Arg... this is the part where I look like a dipshit because instead of hunting it down myself I took somebody's word for it on another message board. Let me see if I can find the reference and see where it points to.

    Sorry, I guess it was from the WebKit Framework information. As posted here;

I guess it came from some information on the WebKit framework on this site, but it won't load for me so I never read it myself.

Hey don't be all up in my hood the front page was raving about the new G3s a while ago or whatever. I haven't looked at it since the blackout. But yeah if they offer coupons that's decent, a good solution, since as BuonRotto et al point out they should get the 970s out the door asap even if it's a sticky situation with a interim 10.2.7. Fixing some Jag bugs would be nice too though.

However if Apple makes 970 owners buy Panther that'd be crummy.
