Modulo zero... now there's an interesting idea. Wouldn't every number equal itself mod 0? I think you mean screen resolutions should be x where x == 0 mod 8, which is the same as dividing 8. Whee math.

The discussion about res-independent operating systems makes a guy wonder if perhaps Panther is working towards this? The talk about 3D OS widgets would indicate something of the sort. 3D objects scale much better than bitmaps. Perhaps even a "zoomed" OS like Jef Raskin is always ranting about (or maybe that's being saved for 10.4).

That's a possible scenario. In that case, the article is accurate. We might KNOW about them next week, but can't get our hands on them until July or August?

    Maddening, I know.

Don't forget that Apple simply demonstrated dual-processor PowerMacs behind some curtains at WWDC, under NDAs, then announced them a few months later. Sure, we knew about them right away, but it wasn't official until they were actually ready to ship.

There is a reason that Apple keeps a uniform resolution of 100dpi across the range. It's called consistency for developers and users.

i just want to mention... those 15.4 inch Dell D series laptops are HUGE!!!

they are not quite as wide as a 17" PB (though close) but they are deeper and like twice as thick.. and wiegh much more. i dont know who in their right mind would want to carry one around.

But we know Apple's won't be that way. Right? Shouldn't be any thicker than the current 15" or aluminum 17", I'd imagine.

I can't wait to see this thing!

A guy on the Macbidouille forums (with one post) claims he works at the FNAC (a store) in Paris which has received some boxes that they are not allowed to open. From the size of the things, he guessed that some are new 15" portables. He then shifts to talking about some other very big boxes.

In a separate post, another FNAC employee with 491 posts claims that they have received some odd, large boxes from Apple with nothing on them.
