have you seen this sketch already?
i have found it on the forums of macguardians.de
it seems to be a sketch based on "the great opening" of a box in a german apple reseller store.
you can see the emac-like air in- and outtakes, the new handles, the ports in front and the ability to rotate the drives and the whole computer by 90 degrees.
edited for not being able to link directly - the title of the discussion is "frische leckereien aus der gerüchteküche"

I do though hope Apple comes up with something a little more breathtaking.

that is what they rumor around on german message boards. the wheel should be out of aluminium. and supports bluetooth.
Elegant handles. Smooth form factor.
Can rest as a flat desktop or stand as a tower.
I find sketches more beliveable than someone who spent a few hours mocking one up in a 3-D program.

The one major flaw I see in the sketches is that when the tower is on it's side, the latch to open it up would be on the bottom. I think apple surely would've made it accessible from above when in the sideways orientation.
it is possible to open it when it is that way. i have to find that text again.

I think I like the fake they had shown lower down on the page better:
Yeah, it's one of my favourites. Just beautiful.

Just one problem. Note that when rotated 90°, the drive bays miraculously rotate as well? Except that it's a rectangualar bay, so actually if you rotated it the bay would be taller than the case is.
For that whole "drive cage rotates" thing to work, it would have to be completely square. When was the last time you saw a drive as tall as it is wide?
Fake.
other computer manufacturers have done this already...
Dell, for one...
(Note: this pic is a very quick hack up job. i know the drives are stretched)
Also... flatten them... tubular handles are too common...
think flater more organic shapes.
If it is round, it cant rotate 90dgrs without looking realy silly..

Well, I guess I have to revise my opinion then, even if the sketch doesn't show it too well, it's possible. Practical? Feasible? I don't know. But it is possible.
And thanks to ajprice for the graphic, makes it much more clear.
