Hey Grover .. you may not agree with him and maybe you find his idea stupid but you can do better than that to change his mind hunh?!

strangely enough I seem to agree with teh more conservatives in thse thread: meaning that there are very many forms of Leftism that lead to Totalitarianisms

but there are also forms of Rightism

Fascism was a strange melange of both Right and left . . . under an aesthetic of power . . . Ive ranted about this non stop before . . . but fascism is the rule of an aesthetic over the political sphere: thus without moral compass . . it is a technique of consolidating ideology, and binding it to an empty ideology-less form of rule that has no specific platform except control . . . the overiding principle is 'binding' (hence the term fascism from fasci root of fasten and tie)

but Matsu is also right that we all can very easily become fascists . . . especially when we "hold or own"

    except that,

as Ive gotten to know FCiB I have become convinced that he really is not your average proto-fascist fundamentalist in that he seems to really have a good heart . .

But it could be all part of "the package" . . . but I choose to take his word for it . . .

his is Reaganomics brought to the worst-case scenario. Not the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer -- more like "Let the poor starve themselves, then there'll be more left over for the rest of us."

This is just more Leftist crap. Reagnnomics did nothing to increase poverty. Conservatives, at least real conservatives, want to see the the problems of poverty and homelessness solved as much as anyone. We disagree on the method. We disagree that increased social spending by the federal government will solve the problem. In fact, we contend that the federal and state governments actaully have CREATED much of the problem. The government has taken the role of the wage earning father in many families. Programs such as WIC have removed the incentive to act in a sexually responsible manner. Most importantly, we question the motives of liberal potlicians who depend on the poor as their politcal power base.

Your full of shit, and I don't mind saying so. The solution is to help the poor become self-sufficient. One doesn't have to be liberal leftist wack job to care about the poor.

Very good post, The part about fascism and moral compass being absent is right on and control being the focus. I advocate a pluralistic society and one that has respect for all. I have my opinions but they are are not something I care to force on a single person. I believe in choice of ideas and true freedom to choose belief.

It's not all that strange really. There are political leftists and rightists, as well as economic leftists and rightists.

Fascism was (roughly) political rightism with economic leftism. The political spectrum shouldn't be viewed as a line with a far left and far right, with moderates in the middle. It's a grid, where both economics and politics merge.

Somewhere on the web is a nice little test you can do to find out where you (and others) exist on the map.
