yeah, just got it... that guy shoulda just seeded it to ONE tracker... some people...
actually what should be implemented is a "highspeed" tracker where only broadband connections can download and there should be a 56k tracker... both will max out bandwidth for any file (assuming the seeder is on broadband...)
heres to hoping this is a good rip and that someone will get the last 10 min or so...
do you have bit torrent installed? all that file is is a "pointer" for bit torrent to find the torrent tracker that keeps track of who is connected and other useful stats... bit torrent actually downloads the file as it is uploaded from a bunch of machines...
if all you are getting is a blank 51k file you need to install BT and then double click that file...
errr ignore that....
just let it go. it will download eventually... I have had nothing but good experiences with BT (although sometimes it seems as if files take longer then they should)
it took me 12 hrs to download the file... a 650mb file you can do the math on the average d/l speed
well it is designed to reward those who upload-they usually get the best download speeds... it tries to match each bit uploaded so that the more you upload the faster your download speed will be... plus you have to connect to peers (other people who are seeding and or downloading the file at the same time as you)
right now my upload speed is around 40k/sec... only like 6 or 7k of that is probably going to you as I have 7 peers connected...
I don't understand why I'm uploading at 40k/s and downloading at 16k/s. I'll have to leave in an hour or two and I'm not even 10% done. Does BitTorrent resume downloads? Sidenote: Dartmouth has unlimited bandwith, it's disgusting actually I can get 1 and half megaBYTES a second with Speed Download 2. I let upload speed be 200k/s and have 40 users so that's not the problem. I was hoping the speed of BitTorrent would be more in the triple digits, maybe even a meg a sec...
yes it will resume downloads quite nicely... all you have to do is launch the .torrent file (so keep it handy) and point it to the 650meg file... BT will ask if you want to replace it... and of course, you do..
i don't know why you arn't getting a better download speed... my friend regularly gets 150k+ per second on BT... so I dono... maybe people can't send it to you fast enough?
26 peers! and it's dropped to 9k/s. Again Dartmouth bandwith is unlimited, way above even 1000k/s. So if it points to the 650 meg file and "replaces it" that'll resume? i'm just scared it will "replace" what I've already downloaded, about 11% (disappointing)
Don't Worry, it won't replace the file you already have. You will however see that the program does a check of the file before it continues to download; this is normal.
