I'll prolly pick one up with my PB17 in Aug for back to school. More out of necessity, but it very nice looking. The came that I have now is not only aging, but won't work with OSX, and on top of that it would be silly to spend $100 on a poor-to-medium quality cam when for $50 I can get one with auto focus, firewire, iChat, etc.

does anyone find it a bit ironic that, for the longets time, apple (according to various 3rd party vendors) didn't support the webcam/video conferencing market at all with drivers? and they still don't do anything via usb (though there are the folks at, i think, ioexperts, that put together usb drivers for most webcams -- even the horrid v. 1.0 irez kritters).

anyway, i was just thinking about that, and thought i would mention it. carry on...

I saw the iSight at the Apple store and have some comments.

    • Auto focus is great. Best feature.

    • Lens is good and video is good quality

    • Range of motion sucks. It only tilts and pivots a small amount. You can't rotate it 90 or 180 degrees. Kind of sucks considering they could have made the mount post round and gotten it all back out.

    • iMoive should be updated to take video from these type of cameras.

    • How about video blog software

It's better than the other cameras but still needs more work to be a true Apple marvel.

The USB thing could be a question of bus power, the iSight does have mic, relatively high res video and power running through that FW cable.

I'm sure most - if not all - of those things will come in time. It just came out less than a week ago!

But yeah, the iMovie thing...nice. And the full-range tilt/swivel would make it quite handy.

They should mount in on a little mini-iMac arm, about 2 inches long or so.

Apple has this agreement with many resellers...including mac warehouse, i think (not sure). Anyhow, if you buy something refurbished from small dog, you then become a top dog member and you can buy whatever. i'm sure smalldog doesn't like it this way, but that's how it is. yay for apple's resellers agreement

Why would Apple care about that? Let the USB device take are of its own power.

What do you mean videoconferencing before iChatAV/iSight? It didn't exist.

Silly boy, Apple just invented it last Monday!
