G5 photos (lots of them)
Here you go:

A word to the mods: Please have mercy with this thread (and me). I know this belongs into "Current Hardware", but since most people scan "Future Hardware" first or solely, and I wanted to make this accessible to as many as possible. So, free feel to move

I hope they'll save that up for a special "geek edition".
But what I am wondering about is dust-filtering and EMI-shielding. And I'd like to know how the hard disks are mounted as well as where the Airport and Bluetooth modules go and what antennas they offer.

apparently the airport antennas will be external and plug in somewhere. the case apparently hasnt been finalized
what i dont understand is how they say you can run it with the side removed. the clear covering only covers the bottom 3 sections and not the top section with optical drive and more importantly the hard drives. i don't know, i wouldn't want to tell my customers you could run the thing with the drives exposed like that.

Two antenna ports are the very first ports from the top down on the back panel.
There's a fan pretty much blowing directly on the HDDs. That's plenty of cooling.

ah, spotted em.... looking quickly i just thought those were the audio ports.
what about shielding for the hard drives? static electricity? dust?
just seems weird to have hard drives in open air like that but perhaps its fine

I got lots of drives running in open air. I think they get dustier in a closed case.
I guess just like many hollywood actors...

I think it would be cool if only one of the holes was the apple logo and the rest were circles.

Apple's first Faraday cage! (Not counting the TiBook)
And running with the door off, without danger.... Mmmm, that is major Geek points
In real life, the PowerMac G5 looks absotively posolutely friggin' awesome. I think I'm going to have to get one. There are only two things that freak me out: the external AirPort and Bluetooth antennas, which we have yet to see, and the fact that Apple didn't release a new series of matching LCD displays. I suppose that both of my concerns will be addressed if I wait until I can get a G5 with Panther pre-installed.

sheet of thick aluminium wraped around the core of the case. Nice and tidy inside, clever cooling. Rather spacy than cheese grater

Dankeschön for the link, RolandG. You were not at the Berlin event yourself, were you?
I don't think that I am very high on Apple Europe's VIP list

I hope the antennas are not corded ones but rahter buds that stick out of the case. I still don't get why they did not implement an antenna area similar to the ones found on the current Al-Books.
And I guess the displays will see an update really soon since the USB-hub is not USB 2 capable.

These photos, by the way, were not taken at that event but on Wendsday, the last day of Mac-Expo in Cologne.
I didn't realize that there even was a Mac expo in Köln. How perfect is that for you, RolandG? Who cares about the Berlin event if you can see and touch the PowerMac G5 two days later in your own backyard?
The PowerMac G5 design has definitely grown on me over the last two days. Only caveat is that it's fairly big. Bigger than the G4 towers for less expansion. But I'll gladly accept that for half-as-noisy (or -silent) operation and good looks.

Don't you guys notice that the Pro speakers jet is gone?
Here's hoping that Apple will announce new Aluminum Cinema Displays with built-in speakers, USB 2.0 and FireWire hubs, and an ergonomic adjustable stand.
