Ok. Well my display came to me at about 6 in the morning today and it has the stripes. I love the thing even though I can't use it till my G5 comes (unless I were to buy an adapter for my ibook--and i don't think that I will). Pinstripes or pinstripeless-they all look awesome to me.
All of the current Apple displays sport stripes. Seen them recently both at CompUSA and a local Apple Store. Their PR photos remind me a bit of the iMac display (which is stripe-free) but these are darker and have more gloss.
