Really? I haven't noticed any on mine, but I don;t use it but once a week maybe, if that. So maybe it's the constnat closing that does it? Anyways, I thought I read Apple addressed that issue, oh well, hopefully I won't have to owrry about it.

hmm... interesting. Maybe it's just perception.

I bought an iBook because I knew I would be lugging it everywhere. I have a nice bag for it, but it's still pretty scratched up. I expected it, and I don't care.

My wife's TiBook just sits on her desk. Maybe she'll bring it to the dining room table or the couch once in a while, but that's about it. It has a couple of scratches, and the paint's pealing. And she takes care of stuff better than I do.

I would rather have the performance of the TiBook, but went for ruggedness instead. I don't regret the decision, but I would like a Powerbook for my next computer, and would appreciate some "ruggedness."

Or maybe I just need to buy a motorcycle.

iM thinking about getting a motorcycle too....

...but if I were to fall off my motocycle? having either the TiG4 or iBook in a backpack...which would protect me from the road-rash better?

haha. i've actually considered that. i have a back protector, but i suppose a titanium plate would be good extra protection. not as cheap as a spineguard, but better than being paralyzed. haha.

I'm baffled. How come people who normally have good taste think the PowerBook G4 looks good? It's a lump of grey rectangular metal. Don't delude yourself, it's more like PC than anything else. Without the Apple logo it could be a Vaio. This plus the keyboard marks and slot loader (hello I have lots of 8mm CDs!) is ridiculous. I can't believe Apple is still making the Titanium case after all its problems.

The Pismo was the best case ever of any laptop, hands DOWN.

Apparently Jonothan Ives thought it looked good as well, so you have a pretty formidable opposition.

Well it worked for that Terminator dude!

Motorcycle and backpack, eh? Probably a bad idea. Notebook as back protector could end up being notebook as spine cracking wedge! I know everybody does it but I think backpacks on a motorcycle may not be the best idea going, landing on your back could go from bad to worse with an oddly shaped package strapped back there. Not to mention the damage to your pricey book.

I understand and appreciate your opinion, but Apple is not going to base its designs on the tiny minority group, who thinks the tibook is ugly and pc-like(?!?!?!?) that you are a member of. The vast majority of people including pc users, mac users, and designers and reviewers think it is well designed and good looking not to mention a status symbol. Why else would it be commonly seen in print and TV ads more than any other laptop, even though it sells much fewer units?

The price is another issue, I agree with the post above that states Apple needs a powerbook in the $1999 range just to fill the price spectrum, even if it is less powerful, the powerbook name carries a lot of status with it.

Probably should start a new thread on this altogether, but it would be sweet to hear Jobs announce a $1999 PB at MWSF.

Although I'm not sure what processor speed it would be since 800 is rather close to the currrent 867 and the 667 would not sell at that price.
