I feel exasperated waiting for this new 15-inch. I know I need to get a life, but I have been waiting for this thing since February - Everyday checking these forums looking for the slightest hope of this model being released.
I caved and ended up buying an 867 Ti in March.
I soon realized why I disliked the Ti, having had several previous models, but I'm suffering through it until the new models are announced.
I might even take that pscates widescreen 15.4-inch iBook if it were to ever rear it's head, even if it had a G3 at 1 GHz (post the pic again, it was great). But I mostly want a G4 15-inch notebook, and I'm so friggin frustrated with the hold-up.

IBM says it will begin sampling its new IBM PowerPC 750GX microprocessor next month, the next generation of the "G3" processor. Based on the PowerPC 750FX processor, the new chip uses IBM?s advanced 0.13-micron copper process with Silicon-on-Insulator technology and will be offered at frequencies up to 1.1GHz. The 750GX includes 1MB of internal L2 cache, 4-way set-associative, additional L1 and L2 cache buffers for pipelining of up to four data cache miss operations, and support for up to 200MHz operation of the 60x system bus interface with additional bus pipelining. IBM's PowerPC 750FX is used in currently shipping iBooks at speeds up to 900MHz.
36 new replies seems to be a lot of talk over absolutely no real information
Exactly. There is no new Powerbook coming tomorrow. We haven't heard from our friend in Costa Rica since "Just wait."
The real reason for the post is to bait desperately hopeful would-be consumers into a paroxysm of comments from snide retorts to humorous jabs to savvy punctuation analysis aimed at determining the veracity of the inciting remark ("he did use a '.' after his statement so it seems he is making a statement and not just pulling this out of thin air"). Soulcrusher can now kick back and grin.
Of course, I count myself among the baited desperate!
I hate these kind of posts. Is it prediction/speculation or claimed insider information?
In other words, dstranathan, do you think this is going to happen, or do you know this is going to happen? And if so, how?
New Apple PowerBook Product Line Refresh happens July 16th at 9:30-10:30am EST. Apple VP of Hardware and Portables, Greg Joswiak speaks at Creative Pro (formerly MWNY) at Javitz. The next tradeshows do not happen until Sept (Amsterdam and Paris Expo). So, this is the time to update Powerbook following their product matrix launch schedule.

If that happens, I'd be ecstatic. The AL 15" will be my first Apple computer ever...I'm just waiting for them to release it already.
How many of guys honestly think there will be a Al 15.4" powerbook at MWNY? Ok this is no joke. I talked to the owner of a local Macstore and he thinks that there will be no new updates at all untill early 2004. And I told him that I thought that ther would probably be at least some kind of little update to keep the whole line current. He said that was the reason for the price drop. So instead of updating it they jus dropped the price. All this could have merit OR he could just be trying to sell me a 17in instead. I dont know. I Sure hope hes wrong!\

No more updates till 2004, now that is a depressing thought, and would further depress both Mac sales as well as Apple's stock prices, no matter how "wonderfull" panther is. I would count on more updates by the end of the summer.

It would be even better with this chip

Well, his post count is 970...
Sampling for this new processor is planned for July 2003 with production targeted for December 2003.
Does that mean no new iBooks this autumn? Or just no new iBooks with this particular chip? Could do a standard 100MHz bump to 1GHz, I suppose...
And DHagan, here you go.
It's 14", BTW.
i vote for this version...
jump back!

Copywriting skills as fine as the illustration.
includes such potential winners as
"Metals and Nonmetals", "Avogadro's Number" and "Emmission Spectrum Groove"
perhaps more appropriate moves for a potential shift from Ti to Al
but we don't want to get it too wrong

Runs like clockwork. I'd bet lots of money new 15" Al G4 gets launched here and updated 12" and 17".
Powerbook G5 will not be announced until MWSF 2004 in Jan at earliest with shipment in March 2004.
Do you feel lucky?
