i really don't think it's in anybody's interest to continue the G moniker, it's all bad memory's now (even though the G3 did quite OK)
a chip that's still in the mhz just don't cut it no more(G3) and overclocked chips does not either(G4)
what Apple need is chips that will be thought of as big bandwith, fast harddrives + GHZclass

Weeell. I do. I guess we have to say the Moto' have p*ssed off Steve more than once over the last 3 years. They've been a virtual catastrophe for Apple and 'power'Mac sales. Apple's own 10K report all but hints at the frusrations...at the spitting blood and 'Get the f*ck out of my office!' I find it hard to believe a guy like Steve would have been happy about this. If I wuz him I'd be plotting the day I could cancel the Moto' contract and do so in the most knife twisting way.
In short, I'd be highly surprised their isn't some payback at some point. Even if it is only taking the Pro' sales out of their incompetant reach.
I'm sure Steve and Apple have the 'bend over Moto' keynote well rehearsed... Some seasoned Appleinsider's may say not. But we all remember the Ati 'keynote', eh? You don't wanna rub Steve's ruhbarb...

So although Apple would probably call an Altivec G3 a G4, technically it wouldn't be because of the 60x bus it continues to use.</strong><hr></blockquote>
The G-X naming convention is Apples, I think IBM uses the 750... naming convention for the Chip that Apple calles the G3. The G, as I understand it, stands for generation and was adopted after the 603/604 line-up (the 601 bieng the first generation). Now if you ask me the addition of Rapid IO, and SIMD does deserve a new G number if Apple continues this naming convention. It is as differnent, if not more, from the original G3 as the G4 is. If they make them as MP friendly as the G4 is, then I think it would make a very nice G5, and call the 970 a G6 this summer.
Motorola didn't start promoting the chips that way until Apple adopted it. In any case, I'm hoping MW will be a worthwhile show. I hope I'm not wasting my money on it.
