I am a Mike Oldfield fan..Tubular Bells rocks & is still going strong.

But the Oldfield site claims that Tubular Bells holds the highest sales record of any music disk ever made.

I know a few other people bought his album, but can this be right ?

If not, what other contenders are there ?\

    The Eagles.....Greatest Hits

    Micheal Jackson.....Thriller

    Elvis......The Hits

    The Beatles.....The Number 1's

The last two being fairly recent. I had no idea Tubular Bells was that popular. Color me surprised.

According to several sources..Tubular Bells had sold over 20 million copies up to 1999/2000...

I think DSOTM holds the record for the longest time spent on the Billboard Top 200. It entered the charts upon its release (1973) and stayed there until it slipped below 200 sometime in the late 1990's (if I recall). How that translates to total sales I have no idea.

Actually, I decided to do some digging:

    Infoplease Site

I THINK this is pretty current. I don't know if this is US sales only.

he Top 10 Best-Selling albums of all time in the whole wide world are, in our considered opinion:

"Thriller" - Michael Jackson (47 million)

"Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975" - The Eagles

"Dark Side Of The Moon" - Pink Floyd

    "Rumours" - Fleetwood Mac

"Come On Over" - Shania Twain

"Jagged Little Pill" - Alanis Morissette

    "The Bodyguard" - (Soundtrack)

"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" - The Beatles

"Led Zeppelin IV" - Led Zeppelin

"Bat Out Of Hell" - Meatloaf

    from here

but if you notice the word "opinion" above, and hte inclusion of shit albums like body guard, jagged pill etc, it makes me wonder.

    Hmmm,

Trying to get sales figures ( from music labels ) based on " REALITY " is like trying to get a virgin to admit all his conquests are just so much wank.

I don't doubt " Dark side of the moon "

The others are shoe-ins as far as I am concerned

    .

Including Frilla....Thriller, Plus Bat out of Hell,

How come no one has mentioned " Hot August Night "

    or Saturday Night Fever ?

Actually I've always thought that Thriller was, if not the top-seller of all tiimes, at least one of them. I remember hearing it had past the 20million mark a long time ago, by the late 80's early 90's.

That, of course, doesn't mean whoever told me was right...

Did you just call Jagged Little Pill a shit album!? Listen to it once before making that call. Listen to it a couple more times to see why someone would think it's on the top 10 list.

Vocally, lyrically, musically, pick a reason. There is nothing about her music that I like. She sure as hell doesn't deserve to be one of the top selling albums of all time.
