Oh, I just noticed something. The other drives were only ATA-100. Doesn't it seem odd that S-ATA would be slower? Maybe the system setup was the real reason.
Thanks for lots of helpful info. I just thought you were saying that Seagate was really bad. Good point that it is quiet. How much was your Barracuda V? BTW, est. price on the WD1200JB is $379 (120 GB). I guess the Seagate looks like $199 (120 GB).
My Power Mac came with the 80 GB Barracuda ATA IV, so I don't know precisely how much it cost me. The Western Digital was purchased bare from Dell.com over a year ago for about $150. Even though it was a bare drive, mine still seems to carry a 3-year warranty. The 80 GB S-ATA Seagate was purchased as a bare drive from CDW for $140 around April.
