He erased all his songs when he moved to the new computer. His iPod is empty.\
I agree that songs can not be re-downloaded for free now, but I expect that to change when ITMS becomes successful and can push it's weight around. However, as scotio said, he tried to BUY the songs again. There should be no reason he can't do that. Everyone gets paid.
It's like walking into a record store and unable to buy that Red Hot Chili Pepper CD that melted in your car because you alredy purchased it last month.

I think it's possible to contact Apple and have them remove the songs from the list so he can buy them again.
Scotio, I think the reason a few people jumped down your throat was your "I feel raped comment" or maybe the Taliban reference. Next time you post try checking the hyperbole at the door, I'm sure you'll get a slightly friendlier response.
As far as your problem goes-I'd go with re-downloading them. It's not piracy if you own it. Well, it might be, just less so.

It's possible to repurchase songs. If you read his original message, he got a dialog which basically stated "You already purchased this song, would you like to purchase it again." Which I guess is a good thing to keep you from accidentally buying the same song twice.
Apple's not stopping him from purchasing the music again, he was just upset because he HAD to purchase it again.
So, is there a command line in the code of the AAc files that keep it from being transfered to more than 3 macs? A counter of sorts. Whats with this authorize thing. I'm confused on how it works to stop people from breaking the rule of no more than 3 macs.
wait till the windows itms comes out, apple is gonna have all sorts of problems with people cracking AAC. Us mac users are either to nice or to lazy to bother
Comments
lets pretend you have 5 computers one in the middle and two each on sides
you buy 2 CDs from the iTMS
you can't say that you want one CD to be played on the 2 macs on the left and the other CD to be played on the 2 macs on the right
3 total for all of your protected AAC files... and each computer needs to be registered at apple..
Then, copy the songs using the iPod as a firewire drive.

This is not about me trying to assign blame!!!!
I began saying it was my fault, my intention here was to merely discuss a policy.
It seems that everyone just wants to blame someone.
america has become the land of "lookin' for someone to blame."
not enough people just say i made a mistake and move on. they have to whine about it and cry to anyone who'll listen.
you learned a lesson, it only cost you fifty bucks. you're lucky.
