Apple has about 4 Billion in cash on the sidelines and could easily secure at least another 500 Million from a bank. [probably considerably more]
oops, i misread your first post. i noticed the numbers, but misassigned them in me head.
if apple has $4B in cash, that means the market only considers them at around $2B (or the market has seriously misvalued the american dollar). i knew the street didnt like apple, i didn't realize they had a hatred for her though. wtf is apple gonna do with 2xits market worth in cash? seems like time to trade up.
Apple buys roxio, gets napster 2.0, then they buy adobe, after that macromedia...they pwn then
the say they are cancelling PhotoShop and DreamWeaver for windows because they don't see that they can compete with MS Paint and FrontPage (just like the did wit IE and safari)
No, seriously. Look at what buying Corel would get them:
CorelDraw suite, including Photo-Paint, which is a pretty capable Photoshop clone (many people remember it from its very early days and knock it, but it works quite well) and Rave, which is in effect a Flash clone.
Painter. No comment needed.
And the biggy, WordPerfect Suite. If Apple wants an option in case Office for Mac is discontinued, here it is.

Apple should buy a monkey.
I think Microsoft would be unwilling to let Steve Ballmer go.
