One reason I don't like tablets is that you have to hold them. How the hell can you play a game on this "laptop replacement?" You can't hool on a gamepad and play it with one hand. The tablet would need a stand. So then it's basically a desktop without a keyboard. I could see that but I like the mouse! I don't like having to point with a stylus. Speech recognition is great but there should be a trackpad built in to all the tablets too. I hope this kinda made sence. I was thinking about as i wrote.

I hate bringing this up, but some of you forced me....

A tablet is not a laptop without a keyboard...

...it is a new digital device, optimised for viewing content. This is where Gates is mistaken.

It can be 1" thick, light and have a big hardrive.

It could show webpages, QT content, ebooks and everything that you do during the day that doesn't include typing...which for some of you is precious little.

It would not NEED text input!! It is not for US! It is a spoke from the Digital Hub! It is DIFFERENT!

    That being said, price maybe a problem and it isn't going to be here in January. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" /> <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

yes, a tablet is not a desktop or laptop, it is a tablet....but you're thinking in the past (and why tablets are and will be failures as tablets---very few people want or need something as limiting as what tablets offer now)....future computers will have a home base with a stand, but will also be mobile...there will be NO keyboards in the near future...not when you just talk to your computer....you can still have a mouse and a stylis and a joystick...but most likely they will only be used by our generation...the next generation will no even know what a keyboard is, and will think of a mouse as something "dad" uses....just my thoughts...g

One thing that just popped into my mind is some people don't want to talk to their computer, they want to type. Let's say some kid is writing a personal e-mail. Well, with the speek-recognising tablet, his parents know exactly what was in that e-mail. This kid would want a keyboard.

Then the kid can take a walk in the park with the tablet while dictating his personal message.

I want to see a revival or expansion of the Cube idea. That is still the ideal size and power combination. For those of us who jumped to the Cinema display as I did for my home machine, it has been a DVD player, too. I just wish a PowerBook G4 could connect with the Cinema.

This is utter nonesense. Typeing is more efficient than dictation, and it will remain the method of choice for writing and data input. Can you imagine an office full of people all "dictating" to their computers? It would be a joke.

Nobody even uses speakable items in OS 9, because it's virtually useless. It's faster and easier to point and click with a mouse, than to tell the computer something (slow and usually 3-5 times), and it doesn't drive everyone else at work batty.

The reality is that a tablet is a useless item. It is not functional enough to warrant spending any money on it. In the future, computers will become more functional, not less. Laptops will gain more features and become smaller and lighter, with larger screens. There simply will be no need for a tablet when laptops can do everything a tablet ever could, and 10x more.

As far as using tablets for "ebooks" or whatever....pick up a damn book and read it! Books don't use batteries or need to be plugged in, they don't have a delicate screen, they are easy on the eyes, they can be taken virtually anywhere, they are cheap, and they are smaller and more portable. Using a tablet for reading is such a misuse of technology....it's overkill. If technology doesn't make something significantly easier or better, then it isn't going to replace somthing. This goes for books, notepads, paper, etc. A pencil and legal pad is far superior to a tablet.

It is an LCD AIO iMac, but for $$$$ more, it can be detached and used as a tablet.
