    EDIT: Nevermind.

BTW, this is a sweet movie! Better than most Apple ads I've seen.

That is the, THE BEST commercial Apple will never(?) make!!!

    Awesome!

Can somebody get Steve Jobs, Jonathon Ive's email address and e:mail that to them!?!?!? C'mon. At least help this guy get an interview.

He could do adverts for all Apple's stuff.

I loooooove the Apple logo at the end. Very jazzy.

Ace advert and a compelling case for an Apple tablet in the next couple of years.

I've never seen a product that so makes me say: 'Gad, I want one. DOH! It doesn't exist.'

    Sniff. Meesa sad. Orrrh.

    Iksnoo!!!

DID you KNOW that Apple are currently running a competition or are inviting entries for the Apple demo' reel?!?!?

    Yep. (Sorry if already posted...)

They want examples of what can be done with Final Cut Pro, Shake etc.

Yours covers Maya 4.5 and Final Cut Pro'!

I think they'd be cock-a-hoop to include yours!

Check around Apple's web-site for the link. Anybody else find it? Post it here? I can't remember exactly where it is...

That is truly a GREAT job. Unfortunately, you won't get hired by Apple. You have already violated employee rule #1- you posted on a rumor site.

Thanks again everyone! I did send the faux advert in!

just great. i don't know about the curved top and bottem... but, anyway i like it a lot. especially the high ress screen that can used in multiple ways and the fact it looks like it runns full blown osx.

    great work

one comment: the music is just horrible. i know it might be electro with some delerium-like vocals, but even back in 1992 this was bad. it's even too outdated to be retro.

anyway, great show especially with the volume off

I loved the music! I'm not a techno guy at all.

(Progressive rocker, long curly hair and clogs.)

The 'breath' piece went sublimely with it.

Completion time 22 hours, Maya 4.5, After Effects, Final Cut Pro. The file is zipped and is in mpeg-4, so make sure you have QT6 installed. Feedback would be appreciated! Thank you all for your time!

Bloody brilliant! I have to agree with some others here to say that slowing it down so we could see more would be greatly appreciated. From what I could tell the back looks as good as the front but it whips by so quickly that its difficult to tell.

As I said before, when the unit is docked, I'd love to see it coupled with some Pro speakers and a keyboard/mouse. Also, when the unit is docked, where does the stylus go? is there an "inkwell" for it, or does it go into the unit housing like a Palm Pilot stylus? Showing where the stylus goes as the unit is descending into the dock might be helpful.

When I look at it, I imagine the music being "Principles of Lust" by Engima, cause that's the way I feel about the product

Still, bloody friggin' brilliant and if there is a power-user version (as opposed to the specs for the base version you listed), I'd buy one in a blink.

Cheers and good luck getting on the Apple radar!

    ok, very, very cool.

    wow.

Banana Nut Bread, Thanks! I did toy with the idea of some bluetooth speakers and a keyboard to go with the unit... But I didn't build the models for them in this go around.

As for the stylus - resting area... If you look at the lower right hand corner of the tablet, you will see the stylus sticking out(when not in the shot), it is a spring loaded mechanism and should work adequately for stowage of the stylus.

As for seeing more of the unit... I will post an image pack tomorrow with stills of the unit for everyone's viewing pleasure. Thanks again everyone!

Hey Iksnoo..i am intersted in learning a 3d app like Maya...how long did it take for you to learn? What is your educational backround? Also if you have any other work...let's see!
  • Reply 54 of 62
I have been using Maya since it was in Beta on SGI machines... Before that I used PowerAnimator on SGI since 1992. Before that I actually started creating 3D on my AtariST in 1986(in High School) and even on the Amiga with Lightwave and the Toaster.

I am an artist, I love to draw and make short films! My background is in Architecture and I also studied Electical Engineering.(So form and functional design, I have some knowledge of!) I have worked on a wide variety of projects.

Maya's interface is extremely easy to get used to. I have used EVERY major app at one time or another and IMO the Maya user interface was/is easy to grasp. That is not to say that Maya is an easy program to master. No 3D program is EASY to master. It takes many hours of study, practice and production usage to really get intimate with ANY 3D package. Beyond learning the software, the most important thing is to be an artist. Drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography are more important than what piece of software you use!!! Doing these things first, and actually applying them to design/story BEFORE you ever touch the computer will make your final product(your art) that much better!

I do have many other works, most of which are character animations. However, my web page is currently undergoing final design changes and will hopefully be ready soon!

    Cheers,

    lksnoo,

You're clearly very talented. Maybe you should also consider working for PIXAR. Everything they do requires your talents and compared to Apple:

    1) they are the market share leader in their business

    2) they are more profitable

    3) there is less politics

    4) Steve Jobs owns the majority of the company

    5) Nobody thinks Pixar is going out of business

    6) They have a deal with Disney that guarantees them distribution and marketing which Apple can only dream of

    7) They aren't held back by Motorola, or IBM or any other single supplier

    Give it some thought.

If anyone is interested in learning Maya, I strongly suggest getting the Beginners Guide on DVD from Alias|Wavefront. You will get to see yours truly talking about Maya essentials on a Mac. It's an hour long and includes the Maya Personal Learning Edition Software. The price is great at only 20 bucks!

Hey Boba Fett, I'm not sure where you work, but if it's for A|W or an independent studio, couldn't you guys use someone with Iksnoo's talents?

I do work at A|W. We are always looking for talented people. If Gary would like to do some work for us, the best thing to do is put together a proposal on a learning tool you would like to develop to teach the world on how Maya can be used in production. This proposal can be for a DVD, book, or interactive CD. This commercial in-fact would be an excellent example of content for a learning tool.

    email the proposal to:

    Good Luck!

Good job on both of the movies. I wish Apple released a product like that.

However, I don't think Apple will do it, considering its stance on PDA's. Although, a name like iNexus would really fit into the whole digital hub idea.

I'm afraid the best we can hope for now is a glorified iPod with gimmicky attachments. :/
