My Apple Store rep told me that All Internet orders would be filled before any store saw any units. it was a commitment to pre-release ordering.

I'm sure the college stores were a priority to keep people from switching to windows.

So why then has not a single person even received a tracking number?

I agree, but doesn't that apply just as much, if not more, to the retail stores?

What a load of rubish. If it is shipping then why hasnt anyone received theres and why arent any of the Mac boards full of box opening pics? 'Now Shipping' should mean that they are hitting folks doorsteps up and down the land - or at least folks get tracking info! Not that a few lucky recipients lucked out. Spin, spin, spin. Lie, lie, lie. I realise that modern life is full of this marketing bulshit and that we may be kind of imune to it - but it sucks none the less. Why cant companies be honest for christ sake? I mean there is a thread on Macnn that is titled "what would you do with the box your G5 came in?" - not exactly the sort of thing you would be reading if the things were shipping already. It seems that Apple is a premature announcer - annoucing products before they are ready to ship and announcing they are shipping when they are not, yet.

Go take some drugs, I prescribe crack. Look around more closely. Pictures, benchmarks, etc, are on the boards and several sites already. I know if I got a G5, I would have better things to do than post on these boards. You have no idea what's really going on. Apple's lying just because you're not happy today.

I hope people do realize that not everyone that preorders or buys a G5 is so infatuated with it they would run around various apple oriented sites and show off.

There is probably a small percentage of people that we don't know about that got their pre orders shipped.

The amount though IS small. Why?

    1- IT'S NOT A DUAL!!

1.6ghz models so far, notice many people everywhere always mentions they got the dual preordered, assuming a better price/performace ratio.

So the loudmouths, so to say, are automatically excluded.

    2- BTO!

BTO by history and just logically, take longer. People who pre order usually BTO(they can't resist). Where it's just because they don't want a modem, they're are in all likelyhood excluded also.

    3- Size

There is aprom 100k of pre orders

That's a lot. How many do you think they can do in a week?

So before you go blaming apple, blame yourself for expectations that is just not likely. Kinda like paying $12 for a baseball game and expecting front row seats.

People probably have them, they just don't rant it to the world, except maybe a few people we know [hint:look at other threads]

J&R is still quoting delivery the week of 9/7 even for dual 2gig G5's.

YES! Come on people, the fanatics who would take a photo of the BOX in their living room and post it are most likely ordering the Dual. Add to it the "God, you bought a 1.6, how stupid are you!" posts on the message boards, why would they bother telling us now?

Has Apple started shipping? Yes, there's clear evidence of it. Is it as many as everyone hoped? We'll have to wait week to see. Now, if next week nobody has posted pictures of their DUALS, I'll admit Apple has dropped the ball. Until then, it's still August as far as I know.

None at all here in Europe. Only seen 1 post of one in the US. Hardly what I would call a rollout. No doubt they will start arriving over the next week or two, some time after Apple decided to run the "now shipping" heading on its website. When they ship in the thousands then you can say they are now shipping. You guys are in denial and seem to come up with an endless list of excuses to explain away the situation. Wake up.

Shipping means the same on both sides of the pond. If you ship a computer, you ship a computer. One, two hundred or a thousand. Doesn't matter. It's all the same. Hundreds have been shipped. Thousands more this week and next. Before you know it 100,000. You see, that's the way things go.

Of those 99,000, how many do you think ordered a dual 2gig which won't be shipping for another week at least?

So what do ship times for recent orders look like? I placed an order for a 1.8 GHz model this morning from the Canadian education store (still feeling somewhat guilty for splurging and passing over the 1.6...) with the only modification being adding an AirPort Extreme card, and I was given a date of on or before October 7th. Let's hope the "before" applies in this case!
