it is not just dreamweaver - the whole mx studio 2004 is not starting up! neither dreamweaver nor flash nor fireworks. Even after reinstalling....where should i search for the solution?
thank you for your help
i get the feeling, from readin what you did, that i know what the problem is (or is related to)...
before you reinstalled the operating system, did you go under the "Help..." menu, "Activation...", then "Transfer License" (in the Macromedia apps)?
if not, you've been locked out of the Macromedia database until you actually call them and tell them the situation and they send you, no joke, another temp download site and/or serial number to activate again. yes, this is macromedia's new licensing scheme. yes, lots of people found themselves locked out of their software after upgrading to panther but forgetting to "transfer license" before reinstalling. and no, it does not make much sense to have "activation" and licensing info toggled under the "Help" menu.
edit: edited for a bit more clarity in my question.
I understand piracy is a problem but I really hate "activation". You wouldn't believe the hoops I had to jump through in order to get my wifes AutoCad LT 2002 to install on XP due to their damn activation scheme. Big huge pain in the ass. Quark XPress was a pain too when I re-installed my OS and it forced me to actually call them. That day all I got was busy signals, because apparently Quarks phone system was messed up. Great. Luckily I didn't have anything TOO pressing to do.
Granted MM's isn't nearly as painful as the above examples, I recently installed MX 2004 Studio (on a PC bah!) and it was quite simple. However one thing I didn't like that I may need to look into more is that the MX 2004 Studio is that I couldn't split things up. For instance since it was a Mac/Win hybrid disk I was thinking that I might only install Dreamweaver MX 2004 on the PC and the rest on my Mac. But noooo activation was a single serial for the whole deal. Not individual apps. Perhaps I was missed something, but if not its kind of lame.
IMO activations force too much dependency on the company. What's next, subscription based apps?

Sounds like those programs have weird dependancies.

the hotfix finally fixed it!
