[quote] Very - what makes you think their new case design will match your glass table?

Well, the 23 inc LCD looks like it will match.
And somehow...seeing as Apple didn't stray too much in the revamp of its display line...I kinda think...even if radically altered...somehow...someway...the 'new' 'POWER'Mac will match m'table by proxy.
[quote] that's a curious thing to say (and something I disagree with, unless unforseen problems are run into during production).

Well, yeah, it is going to be a long time before another update. I mean, 6 months is half a year! I'll be old by then! I doesn't seem that Moto will be making a faster G4 chip by then. I highly doubt that Apple will make a speed bump that is any less than 200 mhz. But Apple has awfully "cheap at high prices" as I like to say.

i was extrapolating the facts as i see it. because i don't have the inside info you seems to have (thank you, thank you, thank you)
i was expecting the 970 to arrive at mwsf2004. so an summer/fall update would still sport a G4 processor imho. especially since sj said 2003 to be the year of the portable and i didn't expect the powerbook would get the 970 this year too, now we have to wait till april before the 17" powerbook will arrive. that's also an unforseen problem.
It would be intelligent for apple to get the 970 in before the business year gets rolling, so companies can their equipment set up before November.

plus, to get in on new customers when the economy picks up, it would be best for Apple to have their new hardware out long enough to get some favorable evaluations in the press, and prove its dependability before the the upswing. If they release an "unknown" as the economy is picking up, then it will be harder to sell new customers on reliability since they do not have a track record with the product.
What I am very curious about is the case. Every product has been redone case wise at least once since the El Capitan case came out. We have seen 2 iBooks, 3 Powerbooks, 2 iMacs, and no change in the Power Mac case.
Is ives stuck? Any ideas what they could do to top the case they use now. And I don't mean minor things like mirrired doors.

The basic problem is that there's nothing especially interesting you can do with a tower. It's a box. It's a certain size. It has certain requirements and capabilities that determine its shape and size (4 full-size PCI slots, for instance). As of the MDD release, what can you improve? Basically, what's left is cosmetics, and there are only so many variations on "large box."
Until Apple finds a way to modularize, externalize or moot the internal expansion needs of PowerMac buyers, I see El Capitan sticking around in one form or another. Of all the machines in Apple's line, it's the one that's least driven by industrial design, and that's just the way it has to be for now.

I think that would be quite a feat. Anyone who has ever owned an El Capitan will attest to the good design of this case, and until there's a compelling reason to change they won't. Remember, the first principle here is "if it ain't broke...", and Apple has been content to simply re-style the Capitan once and a while instead of messing with a good design.
Now, myself, I'm waiting for the return of the slab to the market as a form factor. It'd be nice to replace my dual SPARCStation 20 with a dual G4
I can see them making a cube-esque Box with multiple (at least 4) RAM slots, dual processor and AGP with 2 HDD and 1 CD bay. But underneath would be a expansion bus slot based on RapidIO or Hyper Transport for a stacked box under it that has 4 PCI or PCI-X slots, 1 or 2 more CD bays, and a builtin IDE RAID controller for 4 HDD drive bays. The second unit would be an add-on, have it's own dedicated power supply and cooling, and bolt on the underside of the main unit..
Hmm I may have to draw up some pics to better illustrate.
After lagging behind for 4 years Apple should take the lead when they can! Thanks to OS X dual CPUs are quite useful. Apple will newer compete with Dell in price and I think a dual 970 is a better deal than a single even if the price is some hundred dollars more.
Compare with the current single 1 GHz and the dual 1.25 more than twise the CPU powerer for a 25% price hike
This is not the time to hold back. Apple should do the fastest computers they know how to and also let them be tested by PC magazines and so on. I am sure some will run tests as PC biased as Apples PhotoShop filter demonstrations but If Apple have computers that really are faster than the Intel XP boxes, it will come out.

but indeed not a problem for the powermac.

then the Powermac casing should be like the cube, but with metal.
