Heads up, this is a non-technical question. I run an 867 MHz TiBook -- it seems the startup time for most applications is pretty darn close to my old Pismo 400. It is noticeably faster overall, but is there something involved in the Mac OS architecture that does not allow programs to boot as quickly as Windows machines? Or is my G4 CPU just not as great as I thought? I know this is completely ineffectual for most of you -- running high-end 3D rendering applications and compositing -- but I'm just wondering. My brother (a PC-head/former Machead) says it has something to do with Mac applications loading more content initially at startup (whereas Windows apps require plugins to get this functionality).
