Yes I also think Fireworks and Dreamweaver are sluggish and slow, but no more than before the 2004 upgrade. I think part of the problem could be associated with the Mac OS itself.
I've opened Fireworks MX in classic mode and the Program is extremely fast and responsive, the same goes for Dreamweaver MX. Flash MX and Flash MX 2004 are great in 9 & X strangely?
So what's going on? I'm guessing the OS is just too slow currently or the graphics card drivers/routines arent being used properly by the software.
I'm only using a little Graphite 500DV iMac and the speed differences between 9 and X seem quite astounding. Yet MX 2004 is being touted as the next great thing with dramatic speed improvements all over and you just have to upgrade...... blah blah blah. Only real improvement with Fireworks is scrolling the document using the hand tool, it's silky smooth, yet moving objects on the stage even in non preview mode feels like I'm back on the old Apple LC3, serious Redraw laggggggggggg.
Hopefully Panther's speed improvements and generally optimised OS will address these problems. A new G5 would help also but the iMac runs Photoshop 7 really well..... and it's fast!
Macromedia is being deluged by reports of horrible performance and bugs apparently. I would encourage any users of MM products who have tried out the new 2004 MX products and found them full of bugs or wanting in terms of performance to take a couple minutes and go here:
