As for kernel panic from wake-from-sleep.

This has NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER happened on ALL laptops (Pismo, Two iBooks, TiBook) I own.

    Only happens on my SlowSilver?

We have a G4 quick silver that has a dead disk. I don't know if 10.2 had anything to do with it but it started while I was beginning to use OSX. We switched back and forth between 0s9 a lot. Either way, one day the disk was trashed. Disk warrier said I was out of luck, as did tech tool etc. Reformatting (lost data boo-hoo) and it worked for a while. However, the drive just stopped working again lately (I run the Mac from an external drive now). I think this started as a software/directory issue that progressed to a trashed disk because some idiot left the computer on for 2 days with the drive endlessly seeking to find a directory on the disk.

However, I still love my Mac!

I've been a Mac user since System 6 as well and I remember my computer at the time ( a Mac II ci ) would crash almost 10 times a day. We eventually upgraded it to System 7.1 but that didn't help much lol.. It sucked... It was annoying because the ci didn't have the fuctionality for the command-control-power key restart.. you had to reach in the back on the left (or was it right?) to shut it down and then you could either press the same rear button again or the power key.

    *phew*

After the ci we got a Power Mac 8500/120 in '96 and that machine was SORTA stable (it came factory installed with 7.5.3) but still that crashed. We upgraded it to 8 and eventually 8.5 but not too much improvement.

After THAT my dad got a Tibook and it only crashes on him when using AOL. Otherwise his Mac OS 9.2.2 works pretty stabilly. For Xmas 2001 my brother and I each got "snow" iBooks and I've only crashed while I was in OS 9 and 10.1. Once I upgraded to 10.2 I got VERY few KPs etc. It's been pure bliss. The last time I had a kernel panic on 10.2 was when I was messing with a webcam driver and Jag didn't seem to like that. Heh. I'm really looking forward to Panther.. I hope I don't have ANY KPs no matter what when I get it running.

Oh and Jimzip: I know how you feel lol. All throughout middle school high school I was like the only Mac user... all the others swore to Bill Gates and they insisted that the Mac sucks etc. Now in college I'm blessed that we use Macs. We just got a new DVD Lab with G4 1.25's (dunno if they're DPs or not) running 10.2.6. Those machines are great.

Anyway there's my crash report for now.

Is there anyway to not have your laptop go to sleep when you close it? I'd love for the screen to loose all it's brighntess, keyboard to shutoff, as well as maybe sound, and HD to spin down. But I'd like to still be able to keep things downloaded while it is closed. Biggest problem I have \. Is it possible Apple *COULD* (not will) do an update to make that possible or is it hard wired into the hardware?

    I assume it's a Firmware thing probably.

PowerBook G4 (12-inch): How to Use Your Computer With the Display Closed

I'm sure it's the same with the other computers. You shouldn't do it with your iBook, that's for sure. But PowerBooks support this. I believe you don't even have to add an external monitor, the adapter itself should work too.

Can't we just take a compliment? Do we even have to bicker over how bad things seem to be when it's now oh-so-good? This noob forum poster says no.

Not to get off topic, but... how the hell did you plan this?

Just as I was reading this thread, as I got to the part "wow, I've never seen a Mac crash", I got a Kernel Panic. JUST AS I READ IT! The darkness fell on the screen and the dialog made its appearance.

The sheer odds of this happening must be like one in a million!

    !!!

    Now that's irony!

Quite amazing really, out of the hundreds of threads the one that actually crashed a mac was one on how someone has never seen a mac crash..

Oh how I laughed... (Not at your misfortune of course!)

About your background too, now that's one customized mac!

I can´t believe it. For the first time today after reading this thread, my ibook had a Kernel Panic while I was transfering a file from a Windows 2000 Server to my mac (those f***ing windoze boxes!). Anyway, it was a 5MB file and it was about to finish, I couldn´t believe my eyes when I saw that dialog. True I swear.

I copy the file from Win2KServer to my ibook, this was easy 'cause otherwise I would had to reconfigure the Win, while connecting to my ibook was a lot easier

Well, aside from my Konfabulator widgets. And Dragthing Docks.

The two top left files are Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom part 1 and Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom part 2: Fall of the Koopa. (Part one's guaranteed to move you to tears.) I've watched them many times. Other than that, the rest is just downloaded junk moved to the left side to free up space for more downloaded junk. At least until I get around to dumping it in my "Off the Desktop" folder for later sorting. And I really gotta sort that stuff. I have neglected my junk sorting recently. Ever since I dropped my Zealot and became a Video Game Collector.
