So he is still technically correct in saying that it stands for Group Speciale Mobile, becuase that is what it is commonly understood to stand for.

Regardless, it's utterly stupid to say someone is lying because they use an original acronym for something,

What do the initials GSM stand for?

    Global System for Mobile Communications

But that's only from the official GSM Website. I guess Issa's web browser has some cool time-travel facility.

I've been in the mobile industry (among others) for 5 years. It is simply untrue that GSM is "commonly understood" to stand for anything other then Global System. To claim anything else is a lie.

The system was not develeped "by the French." It was developed by a consortium largely made up of Scandinavians. There was as much input from Motorola as there was from Alcatel. The same amount. This is a bare-faced lie. Why not mention this?

Oh, and Zaphod? Your techy, crapping on about the superior system from his country? Just a shrill voice, jealous of the Europeans (God, it's easy being a neo-con).
