By looking at rumors that are gathering, it seems that a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse is an increasingly possible option.

Ah yes, this old rumor. I think we will see them at MWNY alongside the new Power Macs (970s). Maybe I'll score another free mouse.

I was happy to get the new Pro Keyboard / Pro Mouse with my Cube, when others were shelling out heavy cash for them. As much as I'll drool for the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, I'll probably not buy them if their previous pricing is any indication of the next batch's..

TWO BUTTONS & SCROLL WHEEL!!!!! Please Apple, get with the times, succomb to reality, listen to your users. At least have TWO models then, single and two buttond. Even the single button should have a scroll wheel. Hell, add a scroll wheel to the single and make it clickable.

Amen! this whole one button thing has gone too far, swallow your pride and put another button and a god damn wheel on it. So I can scroll through a site with my mouse in the air.

Exactly. Hell, OS X supports buttons and wheels without 3rd party drivers already anyway. If nothing else it adds another revenue stream for Apple. EVERBODY will want one. Ca-ching!

What will Apple call the 2 button mouse? Not the Pro mouse, because that name is already taken by the little, one buttoned, and overpriced little piece-of-shitt affair that we are living through now.

I dont get it... what is this fixation with an apple-branded 2 button mouse? 3rd party devices work fine... laptops i can understand because you can't customize the track-pad...

also... scroll wheels are terrible in terms of ergonomics... your finger is not designed to move like that at all...

No he's right. Ergonomically correct mouses would have the scroll wheel at the tip of the thumb. The Thumb is far more precise and your tendons don't move as much.

Can't say i'm too excited about Wireless Keyboards. I can see mice because the cable doesn't irritate me sometimes but a Wireless Keyboard??

PC laptops have been customizing trackpads for a while. Sure, it looks ugly as hell but it works. When I first switch to an iBook last year (after not using Mac for 7-8 years), the first thing I asked was did Apple suport track pad gestures. For example, in my VAIO, sliding fingers along the right side allows one to scroll up and down, along the top edge is back and forward, left upper corner to right lower corner to close window, etc. Very convenient.

I don't care if Apple makes a wireless keyboard. In fact, with so many bluetoothless macs out there, and bluetooth being cheap to implement, it might be a good idea to put bluetooth on a wired keyboard and have a wireless mouse only. I would actually use a wireless mouse for travel, very convenient not having any cords when you're on the road and you have to quickly bag your stuff and go.

But, whatever new keyboard Apple makes it MUST MUST MUST have the scissor action keys of the new Al books. I love this keyboard, it's the best, try it, you'll love it. Back lighting would be cool too.

"Scissor action keys"? May I ask what that means? Thanks.

If you've seen any of the new Al PB's or the new MacAlly icekey keyboard, then you've seen scissor action keys. The way the key is mounted to the board differs from the traditional method (which is kinda like a socketed and sprung key). Under each scissor key are two little arms that cross each other, each from one side of the key to the other, when you press the key they close like a little scissor. Not all notebook keyboards have this, the Al PB's are the only laptops I know of with this type of keyboard, but it seems the design was meant to provide the feel of a full size keyboard in the shallower confines of a laptop enclosure. It works very well and should be adopted by desktop keyboards aswell, IMHO.

    MacAlly already does it, <a href="http://macally.com/spec/usb/input_device/icekey.html"; target="_blank">on this model</a>

I like the feel of typing on the AL Book...it has a good solid feel to it, but it isn't too resistant.

Erm haven't Apple's notebook keyboards been like that for ages? My pismo seems to have that too...

Dunno...but the AL keyboard do feel better than anything previous. I'm not a keyboard geek. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Looking through a bronze keyboard, it doesn't look exactly the same as peering under the first row of the PB12's keys, where you can just see the front of the scissor. This keyboard does feel different, but you could be right, the difference might have more to do with mounting the keys solidly in place rather than having a removable keyboard (as per every previous Apple 'book). I dunno, i've never popped the keys off either a PBG3/4 or a new alu book, but peering through the transluscent keyboards of the older PB's, the keys do look more conventional???

In any event, once the scissor keys are solidly mounted, they feel great, better than most desktop keys do. It's time to put this design to work on the desktop keyboards too!
