There is barely any good music coming out any more. The last few years at the MTV music video awards, or whatever they're called, bands like Linkin Park and that other crap has been winning awards like "Best Metal Video" and "Best Rock Album", but this crap isn't metal or rock, it's just crap. Bands like them ruined rock n' roll. Even Axl Rose sold out the G N' R name to his new 'band', that has been working on recording an album for years now, that will probably be an embarrassment to the name. It's all Nu-Metal style like Slipknot and Linkin Park, I mean seriously, he has Buckethead on guitar. I'd kick Linkin Park's ass. **** them.

Yeah, the radio/MTV/BET have been pretty much 100% infiltrated with sh¡t. The music industry has successfully shoved these caricatures down our throats and tries to sell a moniker rather than talent as being popular. Today it's all about the money and the image. For any artist to even been contemplating music they shouldn't be in it for any check they might garner, it should be about the love. Music is something that needs to come from your heart....it's an outlet for self-expression.

I'd have to agree with TigerWoods that there's nothing wrong with boy bands per se (even though I never liked the Beatles), but it still doesn't mean I think Linkin Park makes decent music.

Though I must stress that I don't think anyone considers Linkin Park to be any sort of art. I think the guys in the band are just having some fun and making some harmless money. It's better than other stuff out there for sure, and it's pretty poppy, so this is a pretty stright forward conclusion.

I tend to listen to metal a lot, actually, but as far as I can tell the genre is all but dead. What's real, quality metal? It's with bands like Diamond Head, Metallica (especially 83-88 ), Mercyful Fate, Megadeth, Motorhead, etc (can't leave out Yngwie either ). They are mostly gone now. The "evolution" of hard music took something that generally featured rich and fairly difficult to play ensembles and dummied it down. Even Metallica simplified the tracks (to some extent) for St. Anger. It's just not the same. (Though, truth be told, I really like Load and several of the second-half tracks on St. Anger). The only "metal" band I know of today, that is charting new territory, is "Dream Theater," which is only metal 25% of the time. (Though I have to say that "6 degrees of inner turbulence" is one of the most amazing albums I have ever purchased, metal or not. . . especially the first CD.)

But there will always be pop. And there will always be the bands that last, which are often not the ones that get a lot of radio time during their days. (e.g. I'd argue that Led Zepplin is more popular now then they ever were in the 70's)

But the thing is a lot of the kids that love these bands think that it's the baddest shit to come out of a speaker, they think that bands like Linkin Park and Disturbed (not sure how they do their misspelling, if they do, it's the cool thing to do you know) are writing some thoughtful music that's years ahead of what anybody else could do. A lot of these kids probably only know who Ozzy is because of Ozzfest, and the parade of horrible bands that he takes around the country with him. I wish 80's rock n' roll/hair metal could come back, sure image was a lot for those bands, but they had the skill to back it up with some awesome music. I want my band to save rock and roll, can anybody here sing like Axl Rose or Sebastian Bach? And have an interest to come to upstate NY for practice?

Heh. There was a guy who said not long ago, "I don't know what's going to happen to the upcoming generation. They are the first one in a long time who's music wasn't harder, faster, and more obnoxious."

Anyway, when I meet tweeners who think Linkin park is baddass, I usually just give em a dose of some of the really heavy shit I've got. It's like seeing a deer in the fvcking headlights.

...please. Don't say that or do it. 80's Rock and Roll/Hair Bands official death tragicaly occured on a West Warwick, RI stage Feb. 21, 2003.

    Let's keep it that way.

I think US fans get a mioptic view of the state of R&R and Pop music that comes from MTV, VH1 et al... Where here in the US Iggy Pop opens for bands/plays small venues...overseas he can headline a 3 date SRO concert. His touring schedule reflects that. Do some publicized SRO East/West club dates and the fly overseas and earn the money and respect he has aways recieved. Motorhead STILL packs them in at stadiums and theatres around the world so I guess old dogs (Lemmy) never die.

And Pop music is just that...Pop...pops up...pops down...and then another airbubble is born in its place...lather, rinse and repeat.

Linkin Park is ok. It's basic rock / rap. But this sentence is false:

They are a completely constructed entitity. So tired of rich boys whining

Please don't make stuff up. They were not put together by Zomba Corp.

There is a lot of pop punk out there but a lot of it is at least original and not put together by producers. Just because it is popular doesn't mean you have to rag on it. I have seen this phenomenon a lot. People like to randomly say "xyz that is popular sucks" just to be different. Like: "The Simpsons suck." Of course they don't. That is impossible. But anyway, I'm not saying that's what you're doing, necessarily, but I've seen that a lot lately. It seems to be popular to be different. To fit in you have to make yourself stand out. "Hey Bob remember the other day when I was telling you what the meaning of irony was..." </family guy joke>

I don't get how they haven't released My December on CD though. It is one of my favorite songs from them and I just have the MP3 from their site.

And your point is? Rappers get gunned down and it's not 'the official death' of rap... Michael Jackson gets set on fire doing a spot for a television commercial but has there been a decline in celebrity appearances in commercials? Around the peak of their time Vince Neil killed somebody driving drunk... He went to jail for 30 days and went on a world tour. What does one unfortunate incident have to do with banning the influence of an entire genre of music...?

Nuthin' just don't (didn't) like Hair Bands from the beginning. It's also kind of pathetic that they are still around playing in dingy bars and clubs...my opinion, that's all. I also will retract my "Don't do it" too. Your entitled as anyone to play the music you love...carry the er-torch.

On another note...the Sex Pistols returned a month ago...performed at Hurrah's Casino in Atlantic City...tickets were $75 freakin' bucks...that's pathetic.

Johnny Rotten is a washed up loser and he has been since P.I.L. God I hated that band.

I heard about that, somebody told me they were playing in Toronto, I almost couldn't believe it. Actually, I can't believe it, and I wouldn't go see them, it's quite ridiculous, I thought Johnny was fairly "that's over" about the whole sex pistols thing. Either way, $75 is way too much for them either now or then. I never saw the sex pistols as too musically talented no matter how much of an influence I will admit they had. I think they were alright even, but not really in a musical way of thinking.
