What? I haven't heard many people call it the "Megamall." I just call it the Mall of America.
Hmmm... Must be a thing for us rural folk. I hear it pretty often where I am.

Everyone makes a big deal of it though... I don't get it. It's basically four or five malls connected together with a lame amusement park in the middle.
As others have pointed out, the MOA is mainly around for the tourists, which is fine by me. I've only been there three times in my entire life.

Also I don't like how both the Apple stores in Minnesota are in the south metro! Why can't they also have one in downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul, or in some direction other than south? It doesn't seem to make sense to me.
Nicollet Mall would be a great place, or somewhere in the one or both of the downtowns. I can also see putting an Apple Store in the booming western or northwestern suburbs.
As a side note, I visited the Mega-- sorry, MOA Apple Store a couple weeks ago for the first time. Surprisingly spartan, I thought. A good crew was working that day judging from the conversations I overheard. I also had a chance to play around on the 1.6 G5 they had on display (the model I am seriously considering buying circa January 1, 2004...dependent, of course, on what happens at MWSF).
Exactly. I would never order a Mac until it was actually shipping. I can't see the point in Apple holding your cash and making interest off it while you're still waiting. A few weeks wait is OK but several months...I don't think so. Apple has made out like "Be the first to get..." etc as if ordering sooner will make that much difference. The point is, when they're shipping in quantity they're shipping in quantity, it doesn't matter much when you placed your order.
I pre-ordered my 12" SD PowerBook from Small Dogs and everything went great. They gave a me a realistic ship date and it came on time. The replied to my annoying emails asking for shipping updates. Every time I buy from them it's great.
My dualie was originally supposed to ship on or before 14 Oct, but shipped yesterday, 24 Sep. I paid for 2 day shipping. FedEx Ground is showing delivery by 1630 hours Fri. Only changes made to base configuration were upping hard drive to 250 GB, RAM to 1 GB.
the sad part is my machine would have probably been here in a few days if i'd waited, but by kicking the ship date out another month, they lost that order. i'm sure the BTO had more margin built in.
Only thing keeping me from going to Stock is the fact I order two 23" LCD's and want them under the applecare warranty which requires them to be on the same receipt as the machine.
My Dual was ordered under EDU on sept 16th Oct 22nd was the date until today. I called becuase I was shocked to find out the the Duals are selling off the floors in Novi, MI , they told me that it is about 3-5 days from shipping then changed it to oct 8th.
Woo hoo! I'm typing this on my new Dual G5 right now!
I went to the Salem, NH Apple store tonight to pick up a replacement for a bad FireWire cable... and I stupidly forgot to bring the old one with me, and I couldn't get the replacement without it.
Feeling annoyed, I almost left immediately. I'd been on the store's call list for the duals, so I figured I probably would have gotten a call before I left from home if they were in, but I stiffled my annoyance for a moment and paused to ask about the duals anyway... And they'd just arrived! And I was able to take one home!
I felt a lot better about having forgotten the old cable.
What's funny is that I'd been on another store's waiting list since the day after the WWDC. I'd only been on the Salem Apple Store's waiting list since yesterday.
Well... I'm going back to setting up my new G5 now. I have all of my documents and most of my settings... now to do a few applications and find out which ones can be simply copied, and which ones need to be officially reinstalled.
PS: Oddly enough, after I spent $3000 on a new computer, the folks at the Apple Store saw fit to let me have the replacement cable right then and there, and just asked that I bring the bad cable back in another day.
PPS: New 1GHz 12" PowerBooks were there in Salem too. My BTO order for one has been delayed, but if they're now showing up at the stores, hopefully my BTO 12" will ship soon. If it weren't for wanting to get an 80 GB hard drive, I'd have cancelled my online order an bought a new 12" at the Apple Store too.
here's something i have finally realized after yet another series of delays, just for my dual g4 a couple weeks ago...
after waiting a month for my BTO G4 dualie that if you need the computer ASAP, buy the stock configurations off the website or out of your local retailer. anything else AUTOMATICALLY gets bumped to low priority, and will take 7-10 business days. if there is an interceding holiday weekend, or you went for cheap shipping, that becomes three calendar weeks easily. and i have heard LOTS of examples from other consumers who are told a date, and then, like me, are told at midnight of the fateful shipping day that "due to delays, it will be another 1-3 business days... blah blah blah... we apologize for the delay."
at this point, they know that you are desperate for the machine. i argued with everyone i got on the phone, but nothing to compensate for the delay. not even free shipping.
i threatened cancelling my order, but when the machine finally starts getting assembled, you cannot cancel anymore. don't ask me why, you just can't.
so keep it in mind. 2-3 weeks many not sound like a lot -- even a month may seem trivial when you've been waiting so long already -- but when you NEED the computer, you would sacrifice those BTO options just to have the machine in your hands already.
When I realized I wanted it I called Apple to see if I could add it to my order.
I was told that my machine had almost finished assembly, but if I wanted they would cancel it and start from scratch which would bump my order to the end of the line.
I decided it wasn't worth canceling just for the bluetooth module and the G5 actually shipped the next day!
In the end I'm glad I didn't cancel it, I purchased the d-link bluetooth dongle and it's working perfectly.
But I could have cancelled it if I wanted, just a day before it was to ship!

well, they told me i couldn't. i swear, is it just my phone manner that prevents me from getting any sort of authority in these negotiations? i guess i can't complain. i am pretty happy with my machine so far, though i lost a decent amount of work waiting for it to arrive... sigh.
just called macmall, they say that all their back orders for the dual will be filled and shipped out by this comming tuesday. I think he said they are getting a shipment tomorrow and then on tuesday. same for the new 12 powerbook btw.
Yeay! it shipped, before even the 12" PB we ordered
So I ordered 9/16 and it shipped 9/27, not bad MacMall. They even upgraded my shipping to fedex standard overnight from UPS 2day, too bad todays sunday

Never pre-order. This is my gold key
