i have the microsoft bluetooth mouse. works great, apple drivers only support three of the 5 buttons, good enought tho, scrolls and left/right mouse clicks. its got a good feel to it. i like it.
The ultimate problem with wireless mice is that you still need a cord for the recharger, which makes the concept kind of moot. If you go with interchangable batteries, then you run into the problem that even class 3 Bluetooth draws non-trivial amounts of power. Any encoded, wideband signal is going to chew power.
Replacing batteries all the times sucks.
Take it from an EE who has worked with it: bluetooth is really a fad. As 802.11b devices get power-efficient (you can get some pretty low-power ones these days) you're going to start to see bluetooth drop off the face of the earth. For really low-power embedded operations there's really no way to beat frequency-focused (not wideband) RF. It that respect I'd say the Logitech mx700 is more desirable than the 900.
I like it. It's a little bigger and designed slightly differently than the previous wired mouse. Tracking and everything seems perfect, even when I'm doing a lot with the computer. I honestly couldn't give a damn about extraneous buttons and scroll wheels. Contextual menus aren't something I need, and a scroll wheel isn't any easier than hitting arrow keys. It's simple and perfect and I like mousing on my sofa with the laptop on the coffee table.
Something is different in the optical mechanism of this mouse, from the original Pro Mouse. I couldn't use my Pro Mouse on my desk without a mousepad, because it's a solid glossy white surface. This mouse has no problem working without a mousepad on practically anything I put it on.
Also, I don't know why people keep complaining about it being white instead of aluminum. The white mouse with silver accents matches my silver laptop with white accents pretty faithfully. At least as much as the iPod, power cord, etc etc etc does.
Somehow I've become a single button convert. After using my Ti and a G4 w/ Pro Mouse for a while, I've not missed it. The only time I need a multi-button mouse now is for gaming.
I'm tempted to get the apple mouse but I'd still need another one hanging around for the rare situation.
Also, no one is mentioning the Bluetooth keyboard. Any comments?
I have a Logitech wireless KB/Mouse set, but I'm not too fond of the keyboard nor of the hokey RF transmission system. The mouse is good, but now I want a bluetooth solution.
Anyone know if 3rd party mice will interface with Apple's bluetooth mouse components? I'm talking battery monitoring, etc.
