    What torifile said, Eugene.

    \

Read between the lines a bit.

In any case, I don't think I ever mentioned the international thing. I believe that was someone else. Living where I do (the U.S.), I don't really stay up nights worrying about iTMS coming to Europe - it doesn't really concern or interest me one way or the other - so that definitely wasn't me. But beyond that, yes,I would imagine - with all the different nations and laws - that would be a bit of an undertaking.

But I'd certainly like to see iTunes and the music store get to Windows ASAP.

Actually, now that I look back through the thread, you're kinda combining two things I said at two different times anyway.

I said, at first, the "sitting on their thumbs" thing about iTunes/iPod/music store in general. About how it's very cool and is a wonderful example of the whole "entire widget" philosophy and that I wish Apple would talk it up more. That was just a general, overall comment regarding marketing and "getting the word out".

In my second post, I talked about them "getting it to Windows" ASAP.

I never said - or believed - that they're purposely wasting time or "twiddling thumbs" on this particular front. I'm not the geekiest guy going, but I'm smart enough to realize that porting this thing over (iTunes AND the music store) to an entirely different OS and platform isn't something that happens with a finger snap. But it still doesn't mean I can't wish it would hurry up.

Two things: marketing and Windows I spoke about. You combined them.

There is good news out of this announcement from Dell. This will result in competition for Apple, and the consumer can only benefit. Apple will find new ways to make their product even better. They always do. Plus, the biggest thing is price competition. If one drops their price, then the other will have to follow. This is good for us! Apple's product is too strong to be crippled by this announcement and soon we will see the benefits from the competition.

    Wow, so much to say...

First of all, Apple is NOT sitting around, but is busyily porting iTMS to Windows. This takes time folks. It is nontrivial to move a program from one platform to another and you have to be patient.

Secondly, as for Dell's impending competition with the iPod clone and iTMS clone, this won't work well for them. One problem they have is the lack of mindshare, the lack of a store where you can try before you buy, and most importantly, the fact that they are a pc dealer. That's right, the fact that they sell PCs will kill them in this market place. Why? Honestly folks, do you think that HP/Compaq is going to sell a Dell iPod and Dell iTMS service?. No stinking way. Even if Dell lets other OEMs rebrand their stuff, it would be too much of an insult for them to sell Dell hardware. The net result is that you will see the other vendors move to Apple because Apple is a relatively non threatening brand name that provides them with comprable services to Dell. Hopefully, Apple sweetens the deal by discounting iPods to all the PC vendors who want them so that in effect, the Dell music store is only for Dells.
