Don't dismay too much about the thread wandering off...it was here and if anyone knew of any sort of vertical-mounting "bookends" type of product, they would've said so. I even did some google searching and hitting quite a few Mac peripheral companies, both large and small. Chances are, one doesn't exist.
Which, to an enterprising young person, might be a nice little spark and genesis of an idea...

I guess I'm showing my age here but before the day of tower desktops there were brackets that would stand your desktop on end to conserve space. Hard drives and floppy drives had no problems operating at a slant. I'm a little stunned to see that no such device exists for a notebook.
I do appreciate all the suggestions and research some of you guys did for me. I'm actually warming up to the idea of having the possibility of using two screens anyway.
Good News! Having not found what I was looking for I ordered the DVForge from Macmice.com. It arrived yesterday and I must say it is beautiful. I called the people at MacMice to inform them that the polish did not come with the stand as it should have and began telling the guy what I was originally looking for, something to hold a closed-lid powerbook upright for use with an external monitor.
Low and Behold they just so happen to be in the process of building such a creature and it will be ready for shipment within 30 days! I still love the DVForge but will also look into this new stand when it becomes available.
