Legally you need two licences, Hisham. Cheaper than getting two boxed copies would be to get the 5-license family pack for US$199.

So is 7b85 definitely the build that's shipping on 10/24? Once the secret updater runs to remove the debug code?

My thread was created after yours... but here's my post:

Apple's web site says Panther is coming October 24th! Finally, official word! Yes! YES! (YES I know I'm overexcitied.)

P.S. If Apple takes it down, I've got a screenie but can't host it (don't have any web space.)

You may have problems using the G5 Up To Date program today.

Spoke to Apple Tech and they're aware of the problem and plan on having it fixed tomorrow. My system, purchased 07/19, doesn't show as valid but it should.

    Just FYI.

I cannot believe it! A 15 day upgrade grace period for Panther? Come on! I am so tired of having to explain the way we ( Apple Customers ) are treated.

I received my new 15" PB on October 3rd. I assumed there would at least be a 30 day upgrade period. Especially on a brand new, totally redesigned product.

At least, give us a price break! I just spent $3000. I should not have to pay full price!

My G5 qualified! I ordered Panther. With my luck I wont actually GET it until December. I wont get too excited yet.

I will still go to the retail stores on the 24th shin-dig, so I can get the usual Apple PR fodder like stickers and shirts.

Are they giving out shirts? The event page doesn't mention t-shirts; in the past when they gave them out they usually mentioned it, like iPod and 10.2.

Out of curiosity, what did they give you as a shipping date? My order shows "On or before 10/21", then it has to make its way past customs up to Canada.

I assume that you went through the on-line order process: did you have to pay for shipping above and beyond the "shipping and handling" the $19.95 is supposed to cover somewhat?

What kind of a price break does Microsoft give in the same situation?

In my experience most people that usually use home wouldn't upgrade there os until they buy a new computer with a new one on it.

I wouldn't complain ... those $20 upgrade cd's are peices of shit. The deal is, they send you a cd that will install Panther ONLY if Jag is already installed. So basicly, if you ever want to do a clean install, you have to install Jag again first, and then use the upgrade pantehr cd.

Those upgrade cds are just too much of a pain in the ass for me.

I think when it is released is the least of your worries. I just noticed in 7b85 that the system profiler is uglified to a windows look!

really, I did not know that...

but if you have that upgrade cd then you legally own it. So if you can borrow a real Panther cd from someone or you have one for another computer you can clean install it. Its a crummy workaround but if your able to do it, it beats the full price.

Out of curiosity, why is this being released specifically at "8 pm"?

Of course one can order online, but it just struck me as odd. Especially when most Apple Stores would be closed in the evening.

because panther comes out when its dark so it can strike unsuspecting prey. and all the cool apple stores will probably have late parties
