Hate to tell ya my fellow Cheesehead, but the moment you buy your Powerbook...it will be out of date...that's just the way of the industry. But plan on an update in March or April, and another one this time next year.

a mac outdates much slower than a comparable wintel solution. my new chef was surprised that the newest mac we had running for dtp was a G4 400 yikes. that means it just became 4 years old this fall. it's not fast but sluggish either.
my sister in law has a 2.4Ghz dell running XP. gaming like UT and quake 3 is great but response time in the finder (or whatever the windows name is) doesn't feel much faster than my pb G3 running osX 10.2.6. (osX 10.2.8 sucks bigtime though: shitty battery life, shitty finder response, shitty everything. this update came out just to make panther look really, really great)
the machine i'm using right now is this 3.5 year old pb G3. i could work with it for another year before upgrading. only the 8mb videocard becomes a little too shabby, especially under osX.
i think the current crop of powerbooks are great. if i had the money i ordered the 15" 1.25Ghz right away. but i don't right now so i wait.
...I say wait until MWSF '07, then you'll find a PB with some real power.

2007??? I'll be buying a new laptop by then anyhow.... and thats 4 years from now, long time to wait for a laptop for me since I don't have one yet. I think a cheap iBook might do that trick for now, I'll look into it some more. But I am hoping for an announcement in January!!!
